Objetivos

- Make unit conversions;

- Apply Newton's Laws;

- Define fluid and its properties; apply the fundamental law of Hydrostatics Law and the Archimedes Law;

- Define laminar and turbulent flow; identify and characterize the flow regime; apply the Bernoulli's Law; compute pressure

and velocity at any flow point;

- Define the flow of an electric field and apply the Gauss's law;

- Analyze electrical circuits using appropriate laws;

- Define magnetic force and line of force;

- Recognize the magnetic materials;

- Apply the optical laws and the optical properties of matter;

- Solve problems analytically, numerically or graphically in the topics included in the syllabus;

- Develop analytical skills.

  1. Basics of quantities and measures

  2. Mechanics - Introduction to vector calculus; Static of the particles.

  3. Fluids - Properties of fluids. Fluid statics. Fundamental law of hydrostatics. Pascal, Impulsion and Archimedes Laws. Fluid kinematics and dynamics. Fluid motion at steady state. Continuity and Bernoulli equations.

  4. Electricity and Magnetism - Electric charges and electric fields. Gauss's law. Electric potential. Capacitor. Current intensity. Electrical resistance and resistivity. Ohm's Law. Electrical circuits. Kirchhoff's circuit laws. Magnetic field produced by current intensities.

  5. Optics - Geometric Optics. Fermat's principle. Electromagnetic waves. Laws of reflection and refraction. Images. Mirrors. Optical instruments.

Métodos de ensino e atividades de aprendizagem

The unit is organized with practical and laboratory classes. The theoretical-practical classes switch between more theoretical classes, presented using computer tools to illustrate the subjects, and practical classes using the demonstrative method, with practical problem solving by students under the supervision of the teacher.
In the laboratory classes practical team work will be developed with assessment through reports.
