Objetivos
The objective of this curricular unit is to increase the knowledge about the basic functional unit of all living beings – the cell, in terms of its composition, dynamic and functioning.
Resultados de aprendizagem e competências
The students should know and comprehend molecular and cellular events intrinsic to the functioning, regulation and cellular differentiation, and they should acquire the capacity to have a global perspective of the working of cells and consequently of living organism. It is intended that the students acquire knowledge and be able to apply basic experimental methodologies of molecular biology.

Métodos de ensino e atividades de aprendizagem
This curricular unit is organized in two parts, a theoretical component and a practical one. Presentation of the theoretical content will be done with the help of powerpoint support. The syllabus contents will be presented to the students, to help him attain a profound knowledge of functioning of a cell. The practical component will allow the students to acquire basic competencies to do and analyze the results of laboratory procedures in the context of molecular biology. In this component, series of practical exercises will be resolved, that contextualize with relevant aspects of laboratory and real life situations. In terms of evaluation, a higher weight is given to the understanding of the syllabus contents, being the practical application accounted for the grade.

Obtenção de frequência
In a pre-COVID context, attending classes (maximum of 20% of unjustified absences) was required as access condition to the continuous assessment regime.
Fórmula de cálculo da classificação final
Continuous assessment:
FG= 70% (Test1 +Test2)/2 + 20% Tasks + 10% Group Work (Molec. Biol.)
Exam (1st and 2nd)
FG = 100 % Exam OR Exam + components of continuous assessment (90 % Exam + 10% Work or 80 % Exam + 20% Tasks or 70 % Exam + 20% Taks + 10% Work)
Special Exams:
FG = 100 % Exam
Observations:
- Minimum grade 9.5 for average of Tests or Exam
Observações
In the current academic year, the UC's mode of operation was mostly remotely, due to the imposition of social exclusion measures due to the pandemic of the COVID-19 coronavirus.
In a pre-COVID context, a minimum attendance of 80% of the T and TP classes together is required (that is, the student may have a maximum of 20% of unjustified absences, of the total of classes taught). The Head of the Course is responsible for analyzing, case by case, whether the justification for the absence (s) is considered admissible.
Because the evaluations were non-presencial, it was imposed the possibility of oral defense of grade for all classifications above 9.5, in suspicious cases, recognizing the non-viability of this option being generalized because there are> 80 enrolled in the UC (common to 2 degrees).
The element of evaluation "Tasks" corresponds to activities thar are proposed in TP classes, with the delivery of written / completed elements in Moodle, individually or in groups.
