Objetivos
The main objectives of the UC of Fundamentals of Biophysics are i) the acquisition of solid knowledge in areas of physics with strong application in the fields of biology and medicine, and ii) the application of this knowledge in the interpretation of phenomena that occur at the molecular level and in how they are detected and use in diagnostic techniques.
Resultados de aprendizagem e competências
At the end of the course, students are expected to be able to:
1. Understand physical concepts in areas with applications to biology / medicine: nuclear physics; electromagnetism; membrane potentials and thermodynamics; physics of sound and light, analysis of forces and movements.
2. Understand how physical concepts are important in understanding the physiology of biological systems;
3. Understand how the molecular phenomena that underlie bioelectricity and electromagnetism are recorded and used as a means of diagnosis;
3. Understand the working mechanisms and applications of many medical devices typically used in a clinical setting;
4. Understand the main applications, limitations and risks to the health of the use of medical devices discussed in class.
5. Measure some of the parameters discussed in the theoretical classes, correctly handling the appropriate devices.

Observações Bibliográficas
Biophysics is an area of knowledge that aims to study physical-biological phenomena that involve living organisms and behaviors resulting from the various processes of life. This book covers the main contents taught during the coarse and presents several practical examples.
Métodos de ensino e atividades de aprendizagem
Distance learning
Classes and resolution of exercises by videoconference. All the pedagogical material is made available on Moodle (theoretical content with explanatory recording in PowerPoint; links to videos; articles to support the study).

The final evaluation corresponds to the weighted average of the scores obtained in each evaluation element. No minimum score is imposed for each test, separately, but its weighted average must be greater than 9.5 values.
The grade of the group work can be different for each of the elements of the group, depending on the performance during the realization and discussion of that work. Group work is only mandatory as a condition of throughout semester assessment.
Fórmula de cálculo da classificação final
The evaluation throughout the semester without final exam, corresponds to the weighted average:
0.4 * grade 1st test + 0.4 * grade 2nd test + 0.2 * work evaluation
1st call exam
0.8 * exam grade + 0.2 * work grade
2nd call exam
0.8 * exam grade + 0.2 * work grade
