Objetivos
After the attendance of this course unit, students should be able to apply acquired concepts in order to solve problems involving the:
- kinematics of particles and rigid bodies;
- dynamics of particles and rigid bodies;
- damped and undamped mechanical vibrations.Resultados de aprendizagem e competências
Students should acquire basic skills related to the dynamics of particles and rigid bodies.
Modo de trabalho
Presencial
Pré-requisitos (conhecimentos prévios) e co-requisitos (conhecimentos simultâneos)
Knowledges of mechanics: forces, moments, equilibrium.
Programa
1. Particle kinematics (4.0 weeks)
Uniform and uniformly varied rectilinear movement. Non-linear movement. Uniform and uniformly varied circular motion.
2. Kinematics of rigid bodies (4.0 weeks)
Rigid body motion. Translation. Rotation around a fixed axis. Equations that define the rotation of a rigid body about a fixed axis. Propagation of speeds and accelerations. Instantaneous field of velocities of a rigid body. Instant movements of a rigid body. Instant center of rotation. Plane motion. Propagation of speeds and accelerations.
3. Particle kinetics (2 weeks)
Concepts of strength, work and mechanical energy. Amount of movement. Impulse. Applications on Newton's laws to motion.
4. Rigid body kinetics (3 weeks)
Plane motion of rigid bodies: equations of motion. Flat motion with restrictions. Amount of angular motion of a rigid body in plane motion. Methods of energy and amount of movement. Principle of work and energy. Work of forces acting on a rigid body. Kinetic energy of a rigid body in plane motion. Rigid body systems. Energy conservation. Power. Principle of momentum and amount of motion for plane motion.
5. Mechanical vibrations not damped and damped (2 weeks)
Mechanical vibrations. Particle-free vibrations. Simple harmonic movement. Simple pendulum. Vibrations free of rigid bodies. Free vibrations not dampened. Application of the energy conservation principle. Forced vibrations not dampened. Damped vibrations. Damped free vibrations. Damped forced vibrations.

Accomplishment of the following components (evaluated on a scale of 0 to 20) throughout the semester:
- Individual exercises (ER) (75%);
- Exercises and Tests to be performed in Moodle environment (M) (20%);
- Active class participation (PA) (5%).
The individual tests will be carried out in the academic period, on a date communicated in the previous week, being:
- Five, if the assessment is completely online (all of which are counted for the calculation of the average, TP);
- Six, if the assessment is fully in person (average of the 5 best ones, TP).
If the assessment goes from online to face-to-face, during the semester, the rule stablished to the complete online assessment will remain.
In online exercises or in online exams with a rating greater than or equal to 10, oral tests will be carried out.

Observações
In current semester, classes will be taught online, changing to face-to-face format as soon as the pandemic allows.
