Objetivos

The purpose of this curricular unit is that students should aquire skils with respect to the processes and major operations in refining, understanding the evolution of the processes involved over the decades which allow them to acquire a rigorous view on the future of this industry.
Students should recognize the most suitable processes for refining and treatment of various raw materials, as well as how to obtain the required final products and improving those processes. From these it can be highlight the convertion processes (decomposition, synthesis, reforming), as well as the fractionation processes.

Métodos de ensino e atividades de aprendizagem

This is primarily a theoretical curricular unit and the content is taught by exposure using audio-visual media. In practical classes students analyse real practical problems that can occur during these processes. Note that the tutorials (part of time of doubts), is used for students elaborate a work / small projects, in which they have to collect bibliographic information

The approval in the discipline can be made by:

a) Continuous assessment: 2 tests (45% weight each) and a written work (5% weight), with oral and written presentation in English (5% weight)

b) Final evaluation by Exam

Fórmula de cálculo da classificação final

a) Continuous assessment:

 NF = (Test1 * 0.45 + Test2 * 0.45)+(Work*0.05+Presentation*0.05)

b) Assessment by exam will be the exam grade

Regarding the evaluation of tests and exams, if they must be carried out at a distance, it will be done by individual Online test (moodle), with mandatory camera on. If the camera is not connected or for any other reason that is considered pertinent, an oral discussion can be held to defend the test/exam grade. This discussion will allow student to maintain the evaluation or fail the CU. The oral evaluation will always be within the scope of the answers given by student in the test/exam.

In the event of proven fraud, the School / IPS will be official contacted so that they can take the measures they consider most appropriate.

Observações

This curricular unit was taught this semester in a pandemic context. For this reason, the presential classes were held through the Teams and Zoom platform. In addition, short videos (max. 20 minutes) of the presentations were made available to the students, with the teacher's comments. This curricular unit was taught this semester in a pandemic context. For this reason, the presential classes were held through the Teams and Zoom platform. In addition, short videos (max. 20 minutes) of the presentations were made available to the students, with the teacher's comments. Classes were recorded and were made available on Teams platform.

 The evaluation indicated here is different from the one presented in the A3ES submission, since the weight of the work is now 10% and not 20%. This change is related with the news rules that dont allow to select minimum evaluation for tests.
