Objetivos

This curricular unit intends to pass on knowledge on safety and health in construction projects.

Resultados de aprendizagem e competências

On completing the curricular unit, students should have acquired a global perspective on the importance of safety and health in organizations and construction activity, the legal obligations applicable to the various phases of a construction project and a good knowledge of the main safety risks in building sites, preventive actions and the means and procedures available for effective safety management at building sites.

Basic safety concepts at work. Safety, hygiene and health management at work in companies. Labour accidents and statistics.
Safety management in construction projects. The role of the various stakeholders in safety in construction projects. Safety coordination. Safety and health in the design and contracting phases. Prior Communication, Health and Safety Plan and the Technical Compilation. Monitoring and prevention plans. Emergency plans. Collective and individual protection equipment. Norms, practices and preventive measures of accidents at the worksite.
Critical analysis of construction safety case studies: detection of risks and actions for their prevention in typical activities and situations in building sites.
