Objetivos
The objective of this curricular unit is to increase the knowledge about the basic functional unit of all living beings – the cell, in terms of its composition, dynamic and functioning.
Resultados de aprendizagem e competências
The students should know and comprehend molecular and cellular events intrinsic to the functioning, regulation and cellular differentiation, and they should acquire the capacity to have a global perspective of the working of cells and consequently of living organism. It is intended that the students acquire knowledge and be able to apply basic experimental methodologies of molecular biology.

Métodos de ensino e atividades de aprendizagem
The curricular unit is organized into two major components, one theoretical and the other theoretical-practical, and has a small practical laboratory component. The theoretical content will be presented using computer support (powerpoint presentations, short illustrative videos). In the theoretical-practical component, practical exercises relevant to the syllabus will be carried out, such as exercises and problems, development of tasks/group work in a perspective of problem-based learning, case-studies and research, using whenever possible online platforms and molecular biology software. In the laboratory, simple procedures for illustrating basic molecular biology techniques will be performed, followed by the interpretation of results. The prior preparation of the class, the execution skills and interpretation of the results (lab notebook) will be evaluated.

Obtenção de frequência
In the laboratory component, only one absence is allowed in the 3 scheduled classes.
Attendance at theoretical and theoretical-practical classes is not a criterion for access to continuous assessment regime.
The contribution of the "Class Participation" and "Laboratory Component" components in the assessment by exam requires that the attendance condition be met (70% attendance).
Fórmula de cálculo da classificação final
Continuous evaluation:NF= 70% (T1 +T2)/2 + 10% TG + 10% PA+ 10% CL
Minimum average score for the Tests is 9.0 val.
T - Test
TG - Group Work (Molecular Biology Topics)
PA - Participation in classroom activities
CL - Laboratory Component
Assessment by Exam:NF= 100% Exam OR Exam OR 90% Exam + 10% CL OR 80% Exam + 10% CL + 10% TG OR 70% Exame + 10% CL + 10% TG + 10% PA OR 90% Exam + 10% TG
PA, TG and CL are assessment components done during continuous evaluation.
Minimum exam score is 9.0 val.
The contribution of the "Class Participation" and "Laboratory Component" components in the assessment by exam requires that the attendance condition be met (70% attendance).
Avaliação especial (TE, DA, ...)
For students with special statuses (e.g. student workers) who are unable to attend any classes, and do some of the components, their weight will be added to the Tests components, to the limit that the continuous assessment will be:
CF = 100% (Test 1 + Test 2)/2
