The Scientific-Technical Council (Section III, Articles 15, 16, 17 and 18 of the Statutes of ESTBarreiro/IPS) is the scientific management body of ESTBarreiro/IPS.
Competences
It is the competency of the Scientific-Technical Council to:
- Elaborate and approve its regulations;
- To evaluate the scientific activities component of ESTBarreiro/IPS' activities plan;
- Decide on the creation, transformation or extinction of organic units of IPS;
- Decide on the distribution of teaching service, subjecting it to the approval of the Director;
- Decide on the creation, alteration, suspension or extinction of study cycles and approve the respective study plans;
- Propose or pronounce on the granting of titles or honorary distinctions;
- Proposing or pronouncing on the institution of school prizes;
- Proposing or pronouncing on the making of agreements and national or international partnerships;
- Proposing the composition of the juries for academic examinations and competitions;
- Proposing to the Principal the creation, alteration, or dissolution of Departments or scientific/disciplinary areas;
- Decide on the number of vacancies per course;
- Decide on the collaboration of teachers in other institutions;
- Approve the curricular unit syllabuses, as well as any changes that may be proposed;
- Decide on the academic calendar;
- Decide on the general rules for enrollment, evaluation, and transition from one year to the next, as well as on the precedence and prescription systems;
- To exercise the competencies foreseen by law regarding access to Higher Education and the recognition of degrees and paths;
- Approving the composition of the juries of the competitions for access to the courses, as well as approving the serialized lists of those competitions;
- To perform the other acts prescribed by law regarding the teaching and research career and the recruitment of teaching and research staff;
- To issue its opinion about the management of laboratory resources;
- To pronounce on all matters submitted to it by the Director, on its initiative or by the competent bodies of the IPS;
- Elect, from among its members, a representative on the Academic Council of IPS.
The members of the Technical and Scientific Council cannot give their opinion on matters concerning:
- Acts related to the career of teachers with a higher category than their own;
- Competitions or exams for which they meet the conditions for being candidates.
