Objetivos

Understanding technical drawing knowledge applied to mechanical design. Apply and analyze dimensional and geometric tolerances, adjustments, surface finishes. Analyze and represent mechanical components and assemblies. Create mechanical component designs using advanced CAD tools.

Resultados de aprendizagem e competências

At the end of the unit the student should be able to:
 - understand the importance of dimensional and geometric tolerances for manufacturing and functionality;
 - read, interpret and specify dimensional tolerances, geometric tolerances, surface finishes and welding symbols in accordance with the international standards;
 - use basic equipment for measurement and dimensional control;
 - represent mechanical components using its simplified symbology;
 - specifying standard components following the standard designation;
 - understand good practices in the use of CAD software;
 - know how to use most of the advanced CAD tools;
 - represent drawings of medium and large dimension;
 - develop the ability to work independently and as a member of a group.

Programa

1. Assembly Drawings: Parts List and Exploded Perspectives
2. Dimensional Tolerances and Adjustments: Adjustment systems (normal hole / normal axis), selection of adjustments and indication of tolerances in technical drawing. Functional dimensioning of technical
drawings.
3. Surface Finishes: Definitions and selection of finishes.
4. Geometric Tolerances: Definitions, symbology, interpretation, principles and verification methods.
5. Measuring Instruments: Use of calipers, micrometers, comparators, profile projectors, measuring microscope and roughness meters.
6. Representation of Binding Elements and Mechanical Components: Threaded parts, rivets, welds, keyings, springs, gears and bearings.
7. Advanced CAD Tools
8. Good practices in using CAD software. Management of drawings and PLM systems. Three-dimensional geometric modeling of solids and surfaces. Advanced assembly modeling. Generation of annotated technical drawings. Standard component databases. Technical representation of set drawings and exploded perspectives. Photorealism and animations.

Métodos de ensino e atividades de aprendizagem

This UC uses active student-centered teaching methodologies. All contact hours will be practical / laboratory, with 3/5 of the time devoted to the practical application of CAD tools and 2/5 to the practical application of theoretical content. Theoretical contents will be made available through different audiovisual resources that allow students to study asynchronously. The lecture method will not be used during contact hours.

Assessment consists of a strong training component on more than 50% of contact hours and a summative component consisting of an individual test (30% of the final grade) and a group CAD project (70% of the final grade).
