Objetivos
Provide the students with simplified methodologies for structural analysis. To transmit the concept of critical load. Introducing the fundamentals of matrix structural analysis and finite element method.
Resultados de aprendizagem e competências
At the end of the course the student should:
Know how to transform plane states of stress and plane states of strain, and make their representation in the Mohr plane;
Know how to apply Castigliano's theorem to calculate reactions and deformations in structures; Know how to calculate the internal forces and the support reactions of statically determinate and statically indeterminate plane truss structures;
Understand the concept of critical load and know how to apply the Euler´s formula to calculate the critical load of columns with different end conditions;
Understand the fundamentals of matrix calculation of structures and know how to apply them to simple cases;
Know how to use a commercial finite element program for static analysis and for the calculation of critical loads of simple truss and frame structures.

Fórmula de cálculo da classificação final
a) Continuous assessment:
NF = 0,6*Te + 0,1*FP + 0,3*TR
Conditions for approval in the course:
Te >= 8,0 values
NF >= 9,5 values
b) Final exam assessment:
NF = EX
