1 - Innovation Management

Introduction and fundamental concepts. Innovation process/models. Sources and obstacles to innovation. Diffusion of innovation.

2 – The Innovative organization

Innovation opportunities. Innovation and Competitiveness. Innovation Process. Characteristics and Routines of Innovative Organizations. Innovation and organizational structure. New organizational models. IDI certification.

3 - Fundamental Innovation Strategies

Innovation strategies. Different typologies.

4 – Entrepreneurial Activity

Basic concepts and terminology. The social and economic importance of entrepreneurship. Entrepreneurship and economic growth. Creativity, innovation and technology and their relationship with entrepreneurship. Characterization of the entrepreneurial spirit in Portugal and international comparisons. The entrepreneur profile, essential attributes. Essential motivations. Factors of success and failure in the entrepreneurial act. Types of entrepreneurship.

5 – The entrepreneurial process: from idea to market

Analysis of the idea and potential of business promoters. Analysis of external constraints. Definition of competitive strategy. Definition of the marketing strategy. The funding sources. The ways to start the activity (New Company, Spin-Off, Franchising). Risk mitigation. The importance of personal and professional networks. Public policies and support structures for entrepreneurship: examples of national and local policies and good practices.

Métodos de ensino e atividades de aprendizagem

This is a theoretical-practical Curricular Unit, whose dynamism is based on the study and discussion of themes/cases. In addition to presenting and discussing cases and organizing seminars, the practical component involves drawing up a business plan and setting up a virtual company, which in itself requires intense work throughout the quarter. At the end, sessions will be held to present the business plans.
The Moodle platform will be used for the development of the most important activities, such as: forums for discussion of topics, clarification of doubts, repository of study materials, delivery of student work, dissemination of evaluation results, training activities.

Obtenção de frequência

In accordance with the General Evaluation Norms and the decisions of the Pedagogical Council.
For the academic year 2021/2022, by decision of the Pedagogical Council, it was defined that in order to carry out a CU in continuous assessment, the student must be present in a minimum percentage of 75% of classes (by typology).
Students who intend to attend continuous assessment must be enrolled in one of the classes of the discipline and must have their situation regularized.

Fórmula de cálculo da classificação final

The evaluation in the Innovation and Entrepreneurship discipline results from the weighted average of the above mentioned elements, ie: (Ti1+Ti2)/2*0.35+TGInt*0.25+TGF*0.40.
Ti - Individual test
TGInt - Presentation/discussion of a scientific work
TGF - Written work.

The non-performance and/or failure to deliver any of the three assessment elements mentioned above (tests, intermediate work and final work), cancels the continuous assessment.

Avaliação especial (TE, DA, ...)

When the student does not fit the normal assessment, he can be evaluated through an oral test.
Until the end of the second week of classes, students covered by special statutes (student worker, association leader, religious freedom, parenting regime, high competition, etc.) implications for assessments.

According to the rules in force, defined in the student assessment regulation.
