Objetivos
Understand and know how to analyze the various modes of degradation of materials, namely fracture, fatigue, creep, wear and corrosion.

Introduction: Presentation of several cases studies of degradation modes of ruin. Friction: Friction Laws, Friction Models, Relationship between friction and operational conditions. Wear: adhesive wear, abrasive wear, fatigue wear and tribochemical wear. Corrosion: Corrosion categories. Corrosion Protection. Fracture: Introduction and concepts, Brittle and Ductile fracture, Facture conditions, Linear Elastic Fracture Mechanics. Fatigue: Definition and characterization of the fatigue process, Fatigue S-N curves and their fundamental parameters, Oligocycle fatigue, Application of linear elastic fracture mechanics in fatigue crack propagation. Creep: Introduction and basic definitions.
