  • Understand processes and innovation models, sources and threats, and how innovation spreads;

1 - Innovation Management
Introduction and fundamental concepts. Process of innovation/models. Sources and obstacles to innovation. Diffusion of the innovation.
2 - The Innovative organization
Opportunities of innovation. Innovation and Competitiveness. Process of Innovation. Characteristics and Routines of Innovative Organizations. The innovation and the organizational structure. New Organizational Models. Certification of RDI.
3 - Fundamental Strategies of Innovation.
Strategies for innovation. Different types.
4 - The Entrepreneurial Activity
Basic concepts and terminology. The social and economic importance of entrepreneurship. Entrepreneurship and economic growth. Creativity, innovation and technology and its relation with entrepreneurship. Characterization of the entrepreneurial spirit in Portugal and international comparisons. The entrepreneur's profile, essential attributes. Essential motivations. Factors of success and failure in the entrepreneurial act. Types of entrepreneurship.
5 - The entrepreneurial process: from the idea to the market
Analysis of the idea and potential of business promoters. Analysis of external constraints. Definition of competitive strategy. Definition of the marketing strategy. Sources of financing. Ways of starting the activity (New Company, Spin-Off, Franchising). Risk mitigation. The importance of personal and professional networks. 6 - The implementation of the entrepreneurial project
Formalizing the business plan: executive summary; presentation of the company; analysis of the product or service; analysis of the market (competition); the marketing plan; the operations plan; the financial plan and financing; techniques for presenting the plan to investors.

Métodos de ensino e atividades de aprendizagem

This is a theoretical-practical curricular unit, based on the study and understanding along with the discussion of different issues / cases. A range of different topics / cases are given to a group of students, who will analyze and discuss them. This course involves a hands-on activity that includes the preparation of a business plan and the creation of a virtual company, tasks that will require intense work throughout the semester.
The Moodle platform will be used for the development of the most important activities, such as: forums for discussion of topics, clarification of doubts, repository of study materials, delivery of student work, disclosure of assessment results, formative activities.

Obtenção de frequência

According to the General Assessment Standards and the decisions of the Pedagogical Council.
For the 2021/2022 academic year, by decision of the Pedagogical Council it was defined that to perform a UC in continuous assessment the student has to attend a minimum percentage of 75% of classes (by typology).
Students who intend to attend continuous assessment must be enrolled in one of the classes of the subject and must have their situation in order.

Fórmula de cálculo da classificação final

The assessment in Innovation and Entrepreneurship subject results from the weighted average of the above mentioned elements, i.e.: (Ap1+Ap2)/2*0,30+Ti*0,30+Te*0,40.

Ap - Presentation
Ti- Individual test
Te - Written work.

Minimum score in tests > 7 values
Final average of tests > 9,5 values


The non-performance and/or the lack of delivery of any of the three assessment elements previously mentioned (tests, intermediate work and final work), annuls the continuous assessment. In this case the student must take the final exam.

When the student does not fit into the normal assessment, he may be assessed by oral examination.
Until the end of the second week of classes, students with special statuses (student worker, association leader, religious freedom, parenting regime, high competition, etc.) may contact the subject leader to clarify any specific situations and their implications in the assessments.
