Promoting knowledge of different types of materials used in mechanical engineering: metals, polymers, ceramics and composites and the relationship between their properties, structure, process and service performance. Recognizing the need for design with new materials.

Chemístry

LEM11103 - ECTS The purpose of this course is to introduce the fundamentals of Chemistry, so that the students will be able to further understand other fundamental issues for a Mechanical Engineer, as material constitution, chemical processes, mass and enthalpic balances, corrosion, etc.

Mathematics II

The objective of curricular unit (UC) is to provide students with basic knowledge of linear algebra and skills to deal with the mechanisms of differential calculus in scalar and vector fields, mathematical tools of great importance in the professional training of a higher technician or engineer.

Mechanics

The student should be able to understand and apply the fundamental laws of newtonian mechanics, in particular: apply Newton's laws; apply a specific methodology for problem solving; perform experiments and analyse the results obtained; identify deviations from expected results critically.

Mechanical Techonology I

LEM12109 - ECTS In this Engineering discipline, it is intended that students acquire the theoretical and practical knowledge that guarantees the understanding and framework of manufacturing processes. In order to achieve this objective, students will initially have an awareness in the area of Hygiene, Health and Safety at Work. Then, there will be a framework on the most relevant aspects of dimensional metrology. The third point corresponds to an analysis of the different technological processes of material transformation. At this point, particular emphasis will be placed on Welding Technology. Finally, the Non-Destructive Tests will be analyzed.
It is also intended that students acquire the necessary skills to develop the design of parts produced by welding, according to the specifications normally used in the industry and through the most recent technologies available on the market.

Thermodynamics

LEM12108 - ECTS The domain of fundamental knowledge in thermodynamics, such as: terminology in the area of
thermodynamics, properties of pure compressible substances, first law of thermodynamics applied to closed and open systems, the second law of thermodynamics, entropy, main thermodynamic cycles.

Introduction to Control Systems

LEM22221 - ECTS Na UC de Eletrotecnia pretende-se que os estudantes adquiram competências fundamentais no domínio da Engenharia Eletrotécnica, nomeadamente que permitam compreender os fenómenos de natureza eletromagnética e que permitam analisar circuitos elétricos em corrente contínua e em corrente alternada. Para atingir os objetivos, procura-se complementar os conhecimentos teóricos e a resolução de problemas com a realização de trabalhos de laboratório.

Dotar os alunos de conhecimentos de sobre a importância do sector de edifícios no consumo energético as respetivas legislação nacionais e comunitárias;

Conhecimentos sobre climatização passiva. Dotar os estudantes de conhecimentos sobre simulação energética de edifícios utilizando programas de simulação, compreendendo as bases dos seus algoritmos de cálculo e aprender a utilizá-los para diferentes objetivos, nomeadamente para cálculo de cargas térmicas no dimensionamento de sistemas de climatização, para cálculo de consumos energéticos e estudos de medidas de eficiência energética e para certificação energética de edifícios. Thermal Engines

Esta Unidade Curricular tem como objectivo apetrechar aos alunos com conhecimentos teóricos e práticos sobre o funcionamento, constituição e reparação de Motores de Combustão Interna (MCI) e seus diferentes órgãos e sistemas, através do conhecimento teórico transmitido e do contacto directo com os equipamentos e peças constituintes. Pretende-se também que os alunos conheçam e fiquem aptos a acompanhar as evoluções tecnológicas relativas aos Motores de Combustão Interna. Por outro lado pretende-se que a revisão dos conhecimentos teóricos adquiridos pelo aluno em outras disciplinas ao longo do curso seja realizada gradualmente, usando estes conhecimentos como base para explicação do funcionamento e constituição dos MCI e seus órgãos.

Saber analisar problemas que involvam dinâmica de partículas usando métodos energéticos e saber quando é que esses métodos têm vantagens relativamente à aplicação da segunda lei de Newton. Saber identificar o movimento plano de corpos rígidos. Descrever o movimento plano de corpos rígidos usando as equações do movimento. Calcular forças e momentos em corpos rígidos durante o movimento. Saber aplicar as equações da dinâmica ao estudo de vibrações livres. Conhecer os principais mecanismos que compõem uma máquina. Analisar mecanismos simples usando métodos analíticos.

  • Compreender os novos paradigmas da Indústria 4.0 e os benefícios do uso de novas tecnologias, como sejam as Tecnologias de CNC, as de Robótica Móvel e Colaborativa, o Fabrico Aditivo e a Integração de sistemas, no contexto da indústria transformadora
  • Fornecer uma sequência de conhecimentos com vista a análise, conceção, planeamento e melhoria dos sistemas produtivos.

Aeronautics Fundamentals

Pretende-se nesta unidade curricular que estudantes desenvolvam o interesse pelo estudo da aeronáutica e que fiquem a conhecer os principais conceitos da mecânica de voo, componentes das aeronaves, aerodinâmica e propulsão para conseguir compreender o funcionamento dos vários componentes, a geometria, os materiais e as técnicas de construção das aeronaves.

A unidade curricular (UC) de "Produção Aeronáutica" está focada ao nível dos processos específicos de produção de componentes para a indústria aeronáutica. Pretende-se com esta UC que os alunos complementem os conhecimentos adquiridos nas UC's de tecnologia mecânica existentes nos semestres anteriores do programa curricular.
