Objetivos
This Curricular Unit contributes to get knowledge and competences in the analysis of telecommunications circuits and systems, explanation of the theory associated with electric and magnetic fields, design, implementation and maintenance of communication systems involving different transmission media and explanation of the principles of operation of telecommunication systems embedded circuits.
Resultados de aprendizagem e competências
This Curricular Unit addresses key issues in the Telecommunications area, as exemplified by the study of quadripoles, transmission units, time/frequency analysis and sampling, therefore, giving the student a solid framework for the analysis of signals, circuits and telecommunication systems.
The study of electromagnetic wave propagation and modulation techniques gives the students a set of skills that allows, in a first approach, to acquire skills in the design, implementation and maintenance of telecommunications systems.
Throughout this course the student acquires knowledge regarding the identification and explanation of the uncertainty in the measurement of physical parameters in real context telecommunication networks.

Métodos de ensino e atividades de aprendizagem
The classes consist of a theoretical explanation of the main theoretical concepts, together with the study and discussion of real-life cases, thus enhancing the development of skills to analyze and solve real-life cases. The practical component is based on problem solving oriented towards the application of theoretical concepts to real-life cases of analysis, design and implementation of telecommunications systems.

Written examinations (CT), 60% + Laboratory (CL), 40%.
Written examinations: gets approved in this component the student who obtains a grade greater than or equal to 8.0 values in the average of both examinations.
Laboratory:Gets approved the student with an average grade greater or equal to 9.5 values.
- Two written examinations are carried out.
- The final grade (CT) is the average of the marks obtained in both examinations.
- The minimum grade in each written examination is 6.0 values.
Fórmula de cálculo da classificação final
The final (CF) grade is obtained as follows:
CF = 60% * CE (or CT) + 40% * CL
where CE corresponds to the grade of the final examination (if applicable).
A minimmum grade of 9.5 is required for the student to get approved in the CE component.
