Objetivos

General objectives

  1. To know how to define technological process
  2. To know how to establish the difference between process and unit operation
  3. To know how to create and to represent the processes in block, flowsheet and P&ID diagrams

Specific objectives

  1. To know how to analyse a technological process using mass and energy balances
  2. To know about the importance of reusing materials and raw materials to minimize solid and liquid waste to avoid environmental impacts
  3. To know how to study the economic feasibility of replacing equipment

Resultados de aprendizagem e competências

Aptitudes and competences

It aims to develop skills to operate with industrial processes and for the technical analysis of industrial processes, using mass and energy balances to the industrial processes.

Students are aware of the reuse of raw materials and other by-products in an industry, which can bring economic advantages, internally and externally, enabling new business areas for the company itself and for other companies.

Métodos de ensino e atividades de aprendizagem

In the practical theoretical classes, an exposition of the syllabus is carried out using active learning methodologies with short courses to allow students to achieve the learning objectives. For this, it is foreseen with the resolution of practical application of theoretical concepts. The resolution of exercises on the Moodle platform (using e-learning methodology) are also proposed, with the support of the teacher in Tutorial Guidance. All materials used in class and complementary to the CU are available on Moodle. The evaluation is carried out at the CU on a continuous basis through the completion of 2 tests or a final exam in one of the scheduled periods.

In the laboratory classes, 5 practical laboratory works are carried out to exemplify and simulate industrial processes on a laboratory scale and the students are asked to analyze the mass and energy balances of the respective lab experiments. The performance of the Lab work is mandatory, and the evaluation is carried out by the preparation of reports of 1 work, and the delivery of 5 sheets recording experimental results and calculations in Excel. Students need also to prepare an oral presentation of 1 of the labs works in PowerPoint at the end of the trimester.

The TP and PL classes have provided for the clarification of doubts using the Teams platform, whenever justified in supporting students.

Obtenção de frequência

The assessment methodology is carried out by continuous assessment of 2 tests or a final exam, the exercises carried out on Moodle platform and the laboratory work and respective data processing, carried out throughout the trimester.

The grade of the TP component is obtained by arithmetic mean of the 2 tests, and the grade of each of the tests must be greater than 9.5 values.

It is mandatory to have a grade in the laboratory component and above 9.5 values to obtain the final grade, whether TP is done by test or exam.

The evaluation and respective grade of the laboratory component is carried out by the Laboratory reports (1) + (5) results sheets with the respective work calculations in Excel + 1 PowerPoint work (65%) and Oral presentation of the PowerPoint (35%).

Fórmula de cálculo da classificação final

The final grade (NF) is obtained:

NF = 0.55 x NTP + 0.10 x Ne-learning (Moodle) + 0.30 x NPL + 0.05 x Ass

NTP - theoretical-practical component in test or exam

Ne-learning (Moodle) - theoretical-practical component in Moodle exercises

NPL - laboratory practice component (mandatory)

Ass - Attendance to theoretical-practical classes

Note 1: the NTP and NPL evaluation components must be positive, that is, NT>9.5 and NL>9.5.

Note 2: In the case of online assessments on the Moodle platform, the RUC may request an oral presentation in case of doubt or clarification regarding the grade obtained in the assessment.
