Objetivos
The main objective of this UC is to develop the student’s interest in the study of fluid mechanics, in order to know the main subjects of statics, kinematic and dynamics of fluids to solve the most common problems that arise in engineering.
Resultados de aprendizagem e competências
At the end of the course, students should be able to:- Know the principles of hydrostatics, kinematics and fluid dynamics and apply them to practical cases;
- Develop critical thinking and analysis regarding the physical phenomena addressed;
- Assess the problems and data available to solve practical situations;
- Interpret the results obtained and analyze if they are close to expected;
- Design simple installations for the movement and distribution of fluids;
- Explain the procedures adopted in the laboratories and the results obtained in the tests carried out;
- Effectively communicate the results and conclusions of the work carried out to third parties;
- Be part of a working group and be able to coordinate it.

Métodos de ensino e atividades de aprendizagem
- Theoretical-Practical classes (2x2.0h per week): expository and participatory method (using a video projector to present the contents, films and exercises) and participatory method (with solving practical problems by the students).
- Practical-Laboratory classes (1x1.0h per week): experimental method (laboratory test on the phenomena taught in theoretical-practical classes with a writen report).
Laboratory tests complement concepts introduced in theoretical-practical classes, allow contact with equipment and real situations. Laboratory tests reports are drawn up. The work is carried out in groups, which allows the acquisition of skills in collaborative work, communication and leadership.
The Moodle platform will be used to provide content, to interact with students and to support assessment.

Obtenção de frequência
- Attendance at theoretical-practical classes is recommended, but not mandatory;
- Attendance in laboratory work classes is mandatory;
- The rating of the tests must be equal to or greater than 8.0V;
- The arithmetic mean of the Tests or Exam grades must be equal to or greater than 9.5V.
Fórmula de cálculo da classificação final
* Continuous evaluation:- Two tests (70%) - Minimum rating of 8.5V; Minimum arithmetic mean: 9.5V
- Laboratory work (25%) - Minimum grade for each laboratory: 9.5V
- Problems proposed (5%) - No minimum grade
FG=0.70xMTG+0.25xMLG+0.05xMPPG
* Final evaluation:- Final exam (75%) - Minimum grade of 9.5V
- Laboratory work (25%) - Minimum grade for each laboratory: 9.5V
FG=0.75xMTG+0.25xMLG
Avaliação especial (TE, DA, ...)
Students with special statutes must inform the RUC at the beginning of the semester in order to agree on a plan for attendance/follow-up of laboratory classes to allow the application of the UC assessment rules.
Melhoria de classificação
The classification improvement will be performed by exam only, with access to the exam according to the rules defined in the RAA-IPS.
Observações
- Attendance at laboratory activities is mandatory. In case of impossibility to be present, the student must contact the Teacher in advance;
- The laboratory work reports are returned to the group for improvement, if they have not reached the minimum grade;
- Students who do not have all the reports approved during the continuous assessment period have the possibility to deliver the reports not accepted until the date of the exams;
- If the classification of the proposed problems is lower than that of the laboratories, it is considered that of the laboratories;
- If the student does not obtain the minimum grade in one of the tests, he/she can recover that test on the date defined by the Pedagogical Council for the evaluation of the normal period.
- The weekly time for answering doubts/questions will be published on the UC page in Moodle.dle.
- Students who obtain a final grade greater than or equal to 16 values must perform a oral verification, otherwise the grade will be 14 values.
>> In written evaluations, only non-programmable scientific calculators can be used. Consultation of the form and tables provided with the test (previously published on Moodle) will be allowed.
