Objetivos
Promoting knowledge of different types of materials used in engineering: metals, polymers, ceramics and composites and the relationship between their properties, structure, process and service performance. Recognizing the need for design with new materials.
Resultados de aprendizagem e competências
Syllabus 1: Distinguish between crystalline structures. Interpret phase diagrams. Performed metallographic analysis
Syllabus 2: Interpretation of steels microstructures. Identifying and preventing various types of corrosion
Syllabus 3: Plan and perform mechanical tests of materials
Syllabuses 1, 2 and 4: Plan and execute thermal treatment and thermochemical treatment of steels. Anticipate changes in mechanical properties.
Syllabus 2, 4, 5, 6 and 7: Selecting materials for mechanical design.

Métodos de ensino e atividades de aprendizagem
1. Lectures with presentation of concepts and correlation between different types of materials. Typical cases and examples of materials and their application are also discussed.
2. Lab-Practice classes with solving problems. Experimental work in the laboratory is performed in-group, including testing of materials characterization and mechanical testing. Discussion of the reports of the experimental work is included.
