Objetivos
In industrial or service settings the student must be able of:
- Characterize and select measuring and monitoring devices;
- Assess measuring systems;
- Ensure the control and improvement of process and product' quality using approriate tools and techniques;
- Perform process capability analysis studies;
- Implement acceptance sampling techniques based on international standards.
- Collaborate in quality, environment, and safety management systems implementation.
Resultados de aprendizagem e competências
Know how to characterize and select monitoring and measurement equipment. Know how to evaluate measurement systems. Know how to implement and maintain control by sampling. Know how to implement and maintain (statistical) control and improvement of process and product quality, including studies of process capability.
Know how to integrate fundamental concepts in the field of quality, environment and safety. To know the requirements to the management systems implementation. Know the legal requirements applicable in these management systems.
Know how to contribute to the planning and control of quality, to the elimination or minimisation of environmental impacts, to the safety of people and processes and to ensure continuous improvement. Know the main techniques and tools that support the identification, analysis and assessment of risk, besides the process and product measurement, monitoring and improvement. Know the methodology and objectives of internal audits and certification audits.

Basic knowledge in statistics
Programa
- Measurement systems:
Characterization and selection of measuring and monitoring devices; Measurement errors and uncertainties; Analysis of calibration certificates; Repeatability and Reproducibility studies; Measurement systems capability analysis.
- Tecniques and tools for process and product control and improvement
Acceptance Sampling-- Acceptance by attributes and variables; Advantages and limitations of sampling procedures; Types of sampling procedures; Producer and Consumer risks; Characteristic curves; Sampling procedures based on international standards.
Process and Product control and improvement, and risk analysis-- Tools for process and product characterization, analysis, and statistical control; Control charts for variables and attributes: implementing procedure and interpretation; Process capability analysis. Basic quality and risk analysis tools.
- Quality, Environment, and Safety Systems
Evolution and characterization;
Standards and legal requirements;
ISO 9001, 14001, and 45001 standards interpretation and integration;
Audits to ISO management systems and Certification audits.

Requirements to get approval by continuous assessement:
- Mean of the two tests >= 9.5, and the score (not rounded) in each test ≥ 8.0
- Laboratoty work score >= 10
- Attend/Participate in more than 85% of laboratory classes
- Attend the Seminars/webinars/Open classes organized to the students of this curricular unit
Student outcomes assessment by exam: the exam score (not rounded) >= 8.

Regular/continuous assessment - Type 1:
2 written tests (40% + 40%) + Laboratory work (20%)
Regular/continuous assessment - Type 2:
2 written tests (30% + 30%) + Laboratory work (20%) + Theoretical or Practical work (20%)
Assessment by Exame - Type 1
Exam (80%) + Laboratory work (20%)
Assessment by Exame - Type 2
Exam (60%) + Laboratory work (20%) + Theoretical or Practical work (20%)
The minimum score to get approval in this curricular unit, no matter the type or moment of the assessment, is 9.5.
An oral test is required when the final score is higher than 16. Otherway the final score is equal to 16.
Provas e trabalhos especiais
A theoretical-pratical work can be done by a group of 3 students (maximum) and the topic accepted by the professor.
