Objetivos
This is an integrated course unit and preparation for the course and aims to provide a vision of what is the activity of a civil engineer and develop methodological skills essential to academic and professional performance. As general objectives, the familiarization of students with the activities that engineers perform and the various aspects and specificities of the acts of Civil Engineering. After completion of the unit course the students should be able to understand and formulate arguments and problems that civil engineers face in various aspects of its activity. The students should be also able to solve the problems, find and describe the most appropriate procedures for resolution, to make reports, to present the cases and draw conclusions.
Resultados de aprendizagem e competências
With the syllabus taught at Chapter 1 students acquire knowledge of the structure and operating system of the central and local services. With the syllabus taught at chapter 2 students acquire the ability to organize your work, teamwork, prepare documents and presentations and communicate through writing and orally. With the syllabus taught at chapter 3 students acquire a general knowledge of various aspects of work and professional life of a civil engineer.

Programa
- Presentation of the Institute, the School and the study cycle. Central and local management bodies. Facilities and central support services
- Productivity and work methods. Methodologies for individual study and group membership. Learning techniques of research, planning and programming activities. Organizational techniques for the preparation and presentation of papers and projects.
- Presentation by academic staff of some works and achievements in civil engineering. Discussion of the issues presented and written and oral presentation by students of the cases. Visit to a construction work.

Theoretical-practical lessons. Individual and group works will be proposed. The assessment of these works corresponds to 100% of the evaluation in the course unit.
