Objetivos
Students should acquire basic knowledge on the main materials used in construction, namely their raw materials and processing, characteristics and properties to understand the applications and performances of each one of them. They should also know the current standards in order to select and specify the best materials for each specific situation.
Resultados de aprendizagem e competências
The student should be able to: Acquire teamwork skills; Collect, analyse, discuss and produce information; Use data from technical and scientific literature; Transmit oral and writing information in an objective, equating ideas and problems; Interpret and use technical manuals and other documents; Practice their profession with a capacity of analysis, critical thinking and innovative sense; Develop coherent and consistent proposals to solve technological problems.

Métodos de ensino e atividades de aprendizagem
In T classes the fundamental concepts will be taught by exposition, using audio-visual equipments, and some illustrative problems of these concepts will be presented and discussed. In P classes, the students will individually solve exercises proposed by the teacher. Part of the teaching activities will be taught in laboratory environment where the students participate, in group, applying the acquired knowledge and developing laboratory skills.
Continuous assesment is carried out with individual evaluation and group evaluation. Individual evaluation on normative documents, namely scope, procedure and results with the weight of 15% in the final classification of UC. Also during the semester, and in its practical laboratory classes students, in group, develop the composition, production and testing of concrete. This work has a 30% weight in the final classification of UC. Evaluation by 2xTest / Exam has a weight of 55% in the final classification of UC.
