Objetivos
The curricular unit of Environmental Biotechnology aims to present the main forms of environmental pollution in the water, the air and the soil, the characteristics and mechanism of action of microorganisms in the biodegradation of organic and inorganic compounds, provide students with essential knowledge of biotechnological processes applied treatment processes for remediation, treatment and conversion of waste and effluents. It is intended that students develops an overview of the Environmental Biotechnology, exploring its pervasive nature and rapid development of new environmental challenges. It is also intended that the student develops the ability to search for solutions in the preservation of the environment.

Métodos de ensino e atividades de aprendizagem
The lessons of the curricular unit are organized into three fundamental blocks: liquid effluents, air pollution, and solid waste. For each of these blocks theoretical material will be presented, promoting the involvement and participation of all students, developing their reasoning skills and stimulating their critical thinking. Materials subjects will be available for consultations in Moodle platform. A forum for discussion of the lectured topics it will be created in Moodle platform. Some guided technical visits will be expected, allowing for the consolidation of the themes taught, as well as the preparation, presentation and discussion of a work. At any time, students can contact the teacher via the same platform.
