Objetivos
Learning goals: to know and understand the chemistry of polymers and the main industrial methods for the synthesis and production of these materials; to learn how to characterize polymers, not only at physical-chemical level, but also the mechanical and rheological properties of these materials. To learn about polymer processing techniques and the main industrial applications of these materials.

Programa
1. Introduction to the polymer chemistry. Natural macromolecules and synthetic polymers. Most important polymer families. Structure, branching and cross-linking.
2. Polymerization methods and techniques (both classical and modern).
3. Physical-chemical characterization of polymers. Molecular weight, chemical structure, morphology. Thermal, rheological, and mechanical properties.
4. Technologies for processing and transforming polymers.
5. Industrial applications of polymers. Novel applications: biopolymers, colloids and membranes.

Fórmula de cálculo da classificação final
Two evaluation processes are possible:
1. Continuous evaluation:
Two tests (representing 30% each) and a written report of the mini-project (40%).
2. Evaluation by final exam:
In the 1st or 2nd seasons (100%).
In cases considered convenient, an oral assessment can be carried out for all students with a rating higher than 9.5. In this situation, the final classification will be the oral exam.
