Chapter 1: Chemical Equilibrium
Equilibrium constant, reaction quotient, factors influencing chemical equilibrium, Le Chatelier's Principle, prediction of equilibrium evolution (forward/backward direction).
Chapter 2: Electrochemistry
Oxidation and reduction, oxidizing agent and reducing agent, redox half-reactions and redox reactions, calculation of oxidation numbers, balancing redox equations, electrochemical cell, electrochemical series, spontaneity of redox reactions, Nernst equation.
Chapter 3: Solubility Equilibrium
Saturated and supersaturated solutions, factors influencing dissolution rate, solubility curves, solubility product, ionic product, prediction of precipitation formation, common ion effect, pH and temperature effect on solubility, dissolution of insoluble precipitates.
Chapter 4: Acid-Base
Equilibrium Arrhenius definition, Bronsted acids and bases, conjugate acid-base pairs, Ka and Kb, strong acids (and bases) and weak acids (or bases), pH of solutions, water ionic product, relationship between pH and pOH, determination of pH of saline solutions, buffer solutions, titrations. Laboratory classes Part 1: Acid-base volumetry; Part 2: Precipitation volumetry.
The teaching methodology relies on the presentation of the course content using computer support (PowerPoint slides) and exercise resolution. All materials are made available to students.
Additionally, study support activities are proposed to aid in the consolidation of acquired knowledge.
