Objetivos

In this curricular unit the student will develop skills in technical communication in Portuguese and English to act with confidence in the international professional context.

The student will:

• prepare technical reports in Portuguese and English respond to letters and emails in professional contexts in Portuguese and English;
• work in team to carry out group work and make an oral presentation of  Business Presentation type in Portuguese and English;
• show understanding of English texts related to laboratory techniques and laboratory safety;
• demonstrate the ability to use numbers, technical measurements;
• demonstrate the ability to interpret data tables and graphical representations;
• demonstrate the ability to convey information effectively in graphical format and in tables.

1. Analysis and presentation of data in graphic format and in tables;
2. Oral presentation techniques and the use of tools such as Powerpoint and Prezi;
3. Online research techniques, data interpretation and choice of reliable sources;
4. Professional communication, good practices for preparing emails in a professional context in Portuguese and English;
5. Job application; recruitment processes: CV preparation, cover letter, interview strategies in Portuguese and English;
6. Terminology of the chemistry and biology laboratory in English;
7. Scientific units that are most frequently used in chemistry and biology laboratories in Portuguese and English;
8. Critical reading of relevant articles in Portuguese and English on current scientific topics in chemistry and biology.
