Objetivos

This curricular unit aims to make students aware of different methods and techniques of water analysis, their procedures and importance, as well as the procedures necessary to validate the methods.
By the end ofthe semester the student must be able to plan and manage the execution of routine chemical tests, specialized for water analysis. Thus, it is intended that Thus it is also intended that the student can: - Perform the necessary calculations for the preparation of solutions; - Know the instrumentation of the various analytical methods; - Calibrate the analysis equipment; - Understand the concept of quality control; - Understand the concept of validation of the analysis method; - Interpret the experimental results based on the legislation in force.

Theoretical contents:
1. Types of water and their characteristics. Water quality, parameters analyzed and national and European legislation in force.
2. Quality Control in chemical analysis.
3. Sampling techniques and types of chemical analysis.


Practical laboratory contents:
1. Determination of the content of solids.
2. Determination of Alkalinity.
3. Determination of Acidity.
4. Determination of the Oxidability.
5. Determination of the Dissolved Oxygen.
6. Determination of the Silica.
7. Determination of Manganese.

Métodos de ensino e atividades de aprendizagem

Accomplishment of several laboratory works in group work of students (3-4 students). The accomplishment of each laboratory work is preceded by the accomplishment of a mini test on the work to be carried out based on the protocol of each experimental work. of laboratory work, groups of students must submit a report for evaluation. At the end of the semester, each group will present a poster about one of the works carried out.


Evaluation formula for continuous evaluation:

(0,20 x Global Test) + (0,10 x Work1) + (0,20 xReports) + (0,20 x Laboratorial assessment) + (0,20 x Laboratorial Test) + (0,05 x Mini Tests) + (0,05 x Poster)

 


Evaluation formula for 1st or 2nd Assessment season:

(0,20 x Exam) + (0,10 x Work1) + (0,20 xReports) + (0,20 x Laboratorial assessment) + (0,20 x Laboratorial Test) + (0,05 x Mini Tests) + (0,05 x Poster)

If it is not possible to carry out the test / examination in person, due to the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, teachers may require students to carry out an oral test  for all students who have obtained a rating greater than or equal to 9.5.The grade obtained in the oral exam will correspond to the grade of the test / exam.
