Objetivos

The degree in Bioinformatics results from the joint efforts of 4 IPS schools. Thus, it makes sense that in the

curricular plan exists one unit with multidisciplinary character, aggregating different knowledge. The UC with 5

ECTS, occurs in the 5th semester with both TP and tutorial (OT) components, being implemented through a tutoring

system that monitors and supports the student's pathway.

The general objective is to allow the student to build a specific learning pathway, ensuring the formal recognition of

learning and skills acquired in different contexts and situations - scientific, academic, professional and social –

ensuing its recognization as significant, relevant and in the scope of the desired competencies for the graduates.

These activities can be carried out throughout the course (extracurricular internships or participation in research

projects or others of the IPS) or be structured only in this 5th semester.

The syllabus of this UC varies from student to student since arises from the individual activities chosen by each

student, considered after validation by the teaching team according to its concordance with the desirable

competencies for the graduate in Bioinformatics at the IPS.

We present as an example a set of activities that can be included in the UC:

• Participation in projects (Eco-Schools, DEMOLA, iLivingLabs, etc), short courses (national or international),

professional training, national and international exchanges, extracurricular training, etc.

• Organization of events, participation in conferences, meetings, seminars, workshops, etc.; Activities carried out

within the scope of the student association, pedagogical council, assembly of representatives, etc.

• Volunteer activities, etc.

Métodos de ensino e atividades de aprendizagem

The teaching-learning methodologies are based on a tutorial. Tutors valued the students' autonomy, motivating

them to seek and develop relevant and diversified activities that provide them with personal, social and

professional enrichment.

Students are distributed by tutors (RUC and course coordinators) according to the organization defined by the

RUC. Each tutor will have an average of 10-15 students and closely follow the pathway of each student, assisting

them and evaluating the respective results. Each student must prepare an intervention plan (activities, timetable,

objectives and skills) which have to be negotiated with tutors and may include activities from previous semesters.

The evaluation considers the intervention plan (15%) and a portfolio (85%), describing all the activities carried out

and including a reflection on the added value for the student at personal and professional levels. This UC does not

accept assessment through an exam.

Obtenção de frequência

For the frequence of this course, the student should attend theoretical classes and follow a tutorial model. It is supposed hat the student perform several activities based in previous agreement with the Tutor. Student must also present the assessement elements of the unit

T1= 1st work= individual activities plan
T2= 2nd work= portfolio
AO= oral presentation of portfolio


This unit doesn't accept evaluation by exam
