Objetivos

It is intended that students acquire skills in the area
of industrial electrochemistry related to the production
of various chemical products and treatment of waste waters
and hazardous effluents, using various electrochemical
tools and techniques. It is also intended that students
develop knowledge that allows updating and progress in the
application areas of industrial electrochemistry.

Programa

  1. Industrial electrochemistry: general concepts, the cost of electrolytic processes, electrolysis parameters, principles of cell design, laboratory data and scale-up.

  2. The chloro-alkali industry: general concepts of brine electrolysis, modern technological developments, the production of potassium hydroxide.

  3. The extraction, refining and production of metal: electrowinning, cementation, electrorefining, etc.

  4. Inorganic electrolytic processes: fluorine, sodium chlorate and sodium bromate, peroxides and their salts, potassium permanganate, etc.

  5. Organic electrosynthesis: hydrodimerization processes, indirect electrosynthesis.

  6. Water purification, effluent treatment and recycling of industrial streams: metal ion removal and metal recovery, electrodialysis, treatment of chromium content solutions, electrolytic method of phase separation, FDG, etc.

  7. Metal finishing and metal and materials processing.

  8. Electrochemical sensors and monitoring techniques.

Métodos de ensino e atividades de aprendizagem

This UC comprises a theoretical and a theoretical-practical component. The theoretical component is taught in expository mode, through presentations with computer support from applications such as PowerPoint. An inverted class pseudo-ethology will be applied in which groups of students will expose the themes of the curricular unit during the classroom context, to other students, followed by a discussion of the content exposed by the students and possible corrections to these topics.

Fórmula de cálculo da classificação final

 Assessment at the end of the academic period:

NF = 43% T1 + 57 % AP

 T1 written tests on parts of the content taught;

AP: Presentation of a theme from the curriculum, with presentation and discussion with the teacher and colleagues in a classroom context

 Exam (all seasons):

100% E

 E: exam grade

No minimum score is required in any of the assessment elements.
