Objetivos
At the end of this curricular unit, students will enrich their knowledge in the area of separation processes. In addition, this curricular unit intends to prepare students for the selection, analysis and design of separation processes important in the industry, with special emphasis on separation operations with membranes and sorption / adsorption processes.

Programa
- Separation Processes by membranes: microfiltration (MF), ultrafiltration (UF), nanofiltration (NF), reverse osmosis (RO), electrodialysis (ED), pervaporation (PV), gas permeation (GP). Sizing of equipment. Operation parameters. Transport equations.
- Sorption and adsorption separation processes: chromatography ion exchangers. Kinetic and equilibrium sorption processes.
- Drying of Solids. Drying equipment and selection. Calculation of drying time in a batch process. Determination of the transfer area for convective heating of continuous dryers. Energy conservation in dryers.
- Supercritical extraction processes. Fundamentals, operation and applications.

Métodos de ensino e atividades de aprendizagem
Theoretical lectures will be presented, promoting the involvement and participation of all students by developing their thinking skills and stimulating their critical thinking. Materials will be available in the Moodle platform for consultation of the taught contents. Some guided visits are expected, in the time available for lessons with the PL typology, to enhance the consolidation of the subjects taught. The assessment consists of 2 tests (50% each) OR Final exam (100%).
