Maria João Carmezim has a Master degree in Materials Engineering, IST (1992) and a PhD in Materials Engineering, UNLisboa (2001). She is Coordinator Professor in Mechanical Department of ESTSetubal/Instituto Politecnico de Setubal, since 2001. She is co-author of about 50 publications in international peer reviewed journals, 4 book chapters, two patents, and have an h index of 30 (Scopus Author ID: 6506753582). Last decade, research has been focus in new multifunctional coatings over stainless steel, Zn, Ti and Mg alloys, aiming corrosion protective and low toxicity systems, for aeronautic and automotive industry and biomedical field. Recently her main scientific interest is put on metal alloys multifunctionalization with nanostructured composite coatings and nanoparticles assembled in nanoplatforms – transition metal oxide, phosphates and graphene/reduced graphene oxide - for energy storage and biomedical applications.
Presently is integrated researcher in Centro de Química Estrutural (CQE)/IMS. In the last 15 years, she participated on various national (FCT, ERA-Net) and international projects (MP 1004 COST).
