It is intended that the student acquire a thorough knowledge about the different types of systems and equipment used in heating and air conditioning installations as well as the efficiencies in the various energy transfer processes involved.
The student should acquire the following competencies:
- Know how to identify and characterize an air conditioning and heating system and its main and terminal equipment;
- Know how to determine the efficiency of equipment and processes in heating and air conditioning installations;
- Know how to carry out a dimensioning and selection of equipment for air conditioning and heating installations of small / medium size.
Classification and typology of air conditioning and heating systems. Different types of main and terminal systems.
Efficiency in basic thermal processes: Combustion; Steam compression cycles (refrigeration and heat pump); Absorption cycles; Heat exchange.
Air Conditioning and Heating Equipment
Heat Pumps. Characteristics of the equipment.
Groups producing chilled water (chillers). Selection and operation parameters.
Boilers for the production of domestic hot water (DHW) and central heating: classification, typology, operating characteristics and operation. Renewable fuels.
Solar thermal collectors: typology and main characteristics.
Terminal units: convectors, fan convectors, heat exchange surfaces, evaporators, condensers, cooling towers.
Integration and management of thermal energy systems, accumulation and distribution of cold and heat, cogeneration and trigeneration.
The teaching methodology will focus on a presentation of the programmatic content that will be carried out in person, followed by a autonomous work of the students based on research to deepen the subjects, solve problems and carry out small projects. There will also be 3/4 laboratory tests of full scale heating / air conditioning equipment so that students can apply the acquired knowledge to the characterization of these equipments.
The methodology will have a strong online component expected in the time of contact with students and based on the moodle platform that in addition to the availability of content and support material will also be used to discuss topics and clarify doubts.
