Objetivos
Provide students with knowledge of the infrastructure, modes, and standards associated with the charging of electric vehicles.
To discuss the technologies used in the infrastructures for electric mobility, to identify the functions and requirements associated to these infrastructures, to identify the new business opportunities created based on the characteristics and technological resources inherent to the infrastructures for electric mobility and to discuss the normative aspects.
Resultados de aprendizagem e competências
The main infrastructures for electric mobility will be studied, analyzing, in particular, the existing standardization, the various charging modes and their impact, both in terms of electric vehicle batteries and in the electricity grid.
In the laboratory, charging modes in mode 2 and mode 3 will be tested, as well as traction batteries and their management systems. Thus, in addition to theoretical skills, practical skills will be developed in a laboratory environment.
A research work will also be developed, presented and discussed, based on technical and scientific documentation, mostly written in English.

Introduction to Infrastructures for Electric Mobility. Background and objectives. Standards associated with the charging of electric vehicles (power levels, communication protocols). Main types of traction batteries. Charging and discharging characteristics. Variables that influence the performance and life of the batteries. Charging modes. Connections and connectors. Slow, fast and super-fast charging. Traction battery charging technologies. Induction charging. Bidirectional charging (V2G, V2H, V2V). Composition and management of electric vehicle charging networks. Domestic charging, public charging in private places, public charging. Technical guide of electrical charging installations for electric vehicles. Impact of VE charging on power grids. Charge and emission diagram. Perspectives of evolution of charging infrastructures.

There are essentially two teaching methodologies, namely associated with theoretical-practical and laboratory-practical classes. Theoretical-practical classes consist of the exposition of the syllabus by the teacher. In this context, discussion periods are also foreseen in order to stimulate reasoning, the ability to argue and increase interest. Students must develop a research work, based on technical and scientific documentation, which will be presented and discussed in class. Several laboratory tests will be carried out, testing and characterizing the fundamental equipment of infrastructures for electric mobility.
The assessment components will have mandatory assessment in the theoretical-practical component, research and in the practical-laboratory component.
