- To know the impact of human activities on the environment;
- To define and implement consumption reduction and prevention of water and soil control.
- To know the main processes and unit operations samples for the treatment of water and wastewater;
- To know and understand the functioning of water and wastewater treatment systems, to act in their monitoring and control.
- To know, understand, study and apply the legislation.
Aptitudes and Skills
- Develop monitoring plans for water and wastewater treatment systems, with a view to operational control of the various stages of the process.
- Analyze and understand the results of monitoring water and wastewater treatment systems.
- Ensure compliance with safety and hygiene standards at work in treatment systems.
1.Introduction Identification of the main environmental aspects caused by man:
Environmental protection measures to protect ecosystems and biodiversity. Importance of sustainable land management to ensure the quality of environmental resources (water, soil, air and biodiversity).
2. Water Treatment Technology:
Identification of the main processes and operations in water treatment, taking into account the quality of the water and the purpose for which it is intended.
Monitoring water quality.
Interpretation of legislation regarding water abstraction, water quality for different uses including irrigation, human consumption and the food industry. I
dentification of Hazards and assessment of Risks associated with monitoring and operational control activities of water abstraction, adduction, treatment and distribution systems and definition of protection measures.
3.Wastewater Treatment Technology:
Identification of the main water pollutants and main characteristics of wastewater produced in various industrial sectors.
Environmental legislation concerning waste water in general and the industrial sector. Identification of the main processes and unit operations of a wastewater treatment plant (urban and industrial).
Identification of Hazards and assessment of Risks associated with monitoring and operational control activities of drainage systems and wastewater treatment and definition of protection measures.
Participated expository method, with emphasis on interactive training with active learning methodologies centered on the student, in the introduction of theoretical concepts covered in theoretical-practical classes. The practical component of the UC seeks to present case studies that lead students to carry out the analysis and draw conclusions autonomously, guiding them in this process.

To conclude this curricular unit and be approved, the students must obtain a final grade (FG) higher than 9.5.
The final grade (CF) to be awarded to the student will be determined by the weighted average of the various evaluation moments, according to the following expression:
FG = 50% (average of 2 tests or exam) + 50% (average of the practical work)
Three practical works (case studies) are proposed within the scope of the 3 chapters of the UC program.
