Objetivos
-Give the student a broad view of the fundamentals of Chemistry, within the scope of their basic scientific training:
-Knowing the atomic structure;
-Be able to write the structure formula of a molecule, identify its geometry and respective polarity;
-Know the concentration units of solutions;
-Perform stoichiometric calculations, determining the amount of reagents needed and products obtained;
-Establish the difference between irreversible reaction and chemical balance and know the various types of chemical balance: acid-base balance and solubility balance;
-Perform pH calculations of acid and base solutions (strong and weak);
-Determine the solubility of a poorly soluble substance;
-Recognize the importance of redox reactions and identify the species involved.
Resultados de aprendizagem e competências
The UC covers basic concepts of Chemistry, from Chemical Bonding to various forms of Chemical Equilibrium, thus covering the fundamentals needed to understand Environmental Chemistry (environmental analysis, Chemistry involved in natural systems and treatment systems.
The UC has a laboratory component that allows, in accordance with the objectives of the UC:
-operationalization of the concepts taught;
-development of the scientific and experimental spirit and the ability to organize and analyze information;
-learning of laboratory and analytical procedures and techniques (later applied in specialty UCs);
-acquisition of "know-how" skills and teamwork.

Métodos de ensino e atividades de aprendizagem
Classes have a theoretical-practical (and not theoretical) typology, since it is a CU with the objective of operationalizing concepts. The participatory expository method is adopted, and interactive training is privileged even in the introduction of theoretical concepts. It seeks to lead students to draw conclusions, guiding them in this process.
The UC has a laboratory component, intending to illustrate in practice the theoretical concepts transmitted. In laboratory classes, students carry out experimental work according to provided protocols, later preparing the respective questionnaire or report. In these classes, the experimental and collaborative method (group work) is put into practice.

THEORETICAL NOTE
Approval in the theoretical component can be obtained by continuous assessment (2 tests) or by exam Evaluation by tests:
1st test: 28 Nov
2nd test: 23 Jan
The student whose arithmetic mean of the tests is greater or equal to 9.5 val., provided that in none of the tests the classification was lower than 8.0 val.
Assessment by exam
To be carried out on the dates set by the CP and contained in the SI
The student whose grade is greater than or equal to 9.5 val will be approved.
LABORATORY NOTE
The laboratory component consists in the presential assessment (attendance, laboratory preparation and group work) and a final written assessment of the contents worked in the various laboratories.
The student must have a minimum of 8.0 val.
Laboratory evaluation: 28 Jan
FINAL GRADE
The final grade is the weighted average of the theoretical grade (70%) and the laboratory grade (30%)
