Objetivos

Provide students with knowledge about energy simulation of buildings using simulation programs, understanding the bases of their calculation algorithms and learn how to use them for different purposes, namely to calculate thermal loads in the design of air conditioning systems, to calculate consumption and studies of energy efficiency measures and for energy certification of buildings.

Know the various types of software of energy simulation of buildings;

Know how to work with at least one dynamic building simulation program;

Use the energy simulation program applied to the project work under study to consolidate knowledge of the energy performance of buildings, namely the thermal behavior of the envelope, HVAC systems and other energy systems.

Apply the dynamic building simulation program for the purposes of system design and air conditioning and for estimating the building's energy consumption;

Know how to apply the national energy performance regulation of commercial and service buildings;

Know how to use the dynamic building simulation program to determine the energy efficiency class of a building.

  • Introduction to energy simulation of buildings: Objectives; Dynamic multizone and monozone simulation; Types of programs; Standards EN ISO13790; ASHRAE140; Use of CFD models.

  • Dynamic multizone simulation: Simulation program, its structure and calculation algorithms;

  • Application of the program: Dimensioning of air conditioning systems: Case study; Preparation of the model; Simulation for dimensioning of air conditioning systems;

  • Application of the program: calculation of energy consumption; Case study and preparation of the model; Simulation to determine consumption;

  • Application of the program: study of energy efficiency measures, case study; Introduction of data on improvement measures; Simulation of the different measures;

  • Application of the program: energy certification of buildings: Calibration of the model; Conditions to be complied with for the simulation of the conditions and reference conditions; Predicted and reference simulation; Allocation of the energy efficiency class.

Métodos de ensino e atividades de aprendizagem

The teaching methodology will focus on a presentation of the programmatic contents that will be carried out in person, followed by a project (project-based learning methodology) based on three stages of work and evaluation, simulation for design, simulation for energy consumption and improvement and simulation measures for energy certification. The project will be developed based on autonomous work of students supported by the teacher in classroom environment and online and based on the moodle platform.

The methodology will have a strong online component expected in the time of contact with students and based on the moodle platform that in addition to the availability of content and support material will also be used to discuss topics and clarify doubts.

Obtenção de frequência

The evaluation will be based on an individual assessment in the form of a test (minimum grade, 7 points) on the contents taught, with a weight of 30%.

An evaluation of the project work developed by the students' groups of 2 to 4 students), evaluated in two phases with a weight of 40% in the first phase and 60% in the second and last phase. The project is based on the work developed in Moodle activities.

Approval corresponds to a weighted average of the test (30%) and the project work (70%) with a grade equal to or greater than 10 points.

Minimum grade in the test: 7 values
