Objetivos
This curricular unit (UC) is designed to:
- Make known the main skills of the mechanical engineer and his role in society;
- Identify the various functions of the Mechanical Engineer and framing with the specific characteristics.
of each branch of the course;
- Know the real working context of the mechanical engineer through seminars and / or field trips to the
industries of the region;
- Develop communication and writing skills.
Resultados de aprendizagem e competências
- Know the Department of Mechanical Engineering as to its structure, scientific activity and support to
companies and existing laboratory facilities.
- Identify the various functions of the Mechanical Engineer and framing with the specific characteristics of
the various profiles.
- Know the main professional orders and their role in society;
- Know the real context of work through seminars and / or study visits to industries / companies in the
region;
- Develop time management, teamwork, project work, and communication skills (written and oral). Writing
skills emphasize the rules of writing technical reports, bibliographic referencing and plagiarism control.

Energy, design, production especially in the automotive and aeronautics industry.
3. Basic measuring equipment in common use in mechanical engineering
4. Assembly, disassembly, measurement and representation of simple mechanical systems
5. Elaboration of Descriptive Memories

Activities are based on seminars and work presentations.
The seminars will aim to present the different profiles of the course.
Students must make an oral presentation of a group work with a theme associated with one of the 4 course profiles.

- 20% - Mini reports from seminars with external/guest speakers
- 10% - Attendance at the 9 weeks of seminars
- 65% - Final presentation of the work
- 5% - Attendance in the 3 weeks of final presentations
