Objetivos
Successfully completing the learning program students will be able to understand the role of sensors and actuators in process automation as well as the fundamentals that underlie the functioning of these devices.
Resultados de aprendizagem e competências
- Scale electrical signal conversion devices to normalized values.
- Describe the measurement characteristics in terms of accuracy and uncertainty of sensors and actuators.
- Specify and design functional modules for non-electrical measurement of electrical quantities.
- Know and characterize different sensors used to measure different variables.
- Know and characterize different actuators.
- Know and describe the main means of signal transmission.

Métodos de ensino e atividades de aprendizagem
Theoretical-Practical Classes that consist of:
- Exposition of the subject and critical reflection through debate with students.
- Case studies and application exercises.
Laboratory classes that consist of:
- Carrying out 5 experimental works using devices, sensors and actuators, studied in the curricular unit.
- Completion of reports of experimental works.
Conducting a Seminar in English with the theme: “Sensors and Actuators in Mechanical Engineering Systems”.
The Seminar is carried out in groups with a maximum number of 3 students. There will be a 10-minute oral presentation subject to a 5-minute debate.

In continuous assessment there are three components:
- Conduct two assessment mini tests (50%).
- Performing 5 laboratory work with 3 report delivery (30%).
- Conducting a Seminar in English language with the theme : “Sensors and Actuators in Mechanical Engineering Systems”(20%).
The evaluation can be carried out by a final exam on all the subjects taught and the five laboratory works.
- Laboratory reports (in groups), with a weight of 30% in the final classification.
- Final exam on all subjects taught, with a weight of 70% in the final classification, with an exam grade greater than or equal to 10.

minimum score of each mini test: 7
The exam classification is obtained as follows:
Final Grade= 70% Exam Grade + 30% Lab Report Grade
The minimum grade to pass the UC, at any assessment time, is 9.5. The minimum exam grade is 9.5 values
