Objetivos
This curricular unit gives students the ability to solve new problems in different contexts, including research and development, namely:
- know how to use advanced mathematics in research and development;
- know how to do research and development in their field of expertise, with high autonomy;
- have deep knowledge of the "state of the art" technologies in their area of expertise.
Resultados de aprendizagem e competências
Due to its characteristics, this curricular unit, being based on the development of independent work by the student, being supervised by a professor, allow to combine the ability to solve new and complex problems with the knowledge of the state of art in this area of expertise and the development of skills in the design and supervision of systems in this area of knowledge.

The elaboration of the Dissertation or Project and the report elaboration is supervised by a PhD or specialist whose merit is recognized by the school Scientific and Technical Committee.

Obtenção de frequência
The dissertation or internship report is subject to a public discussion and evaluation by a jury appointed by the school Scientific and Technical Committee.
The maximum duration of the discussion and evaluation process, including the oral presentation of the Dissertation or Project, is 60 minutes.
Fórmula de cálculo da classificação final
After the public discussion of the Dissertation or Project, each member of the jury fills a sheet with a rating on a scale of 0 to 20:
A – Scientific Quality (60%)
B - Quality of public presentation (10%)
C - Public discussion (30%)
The student is approved if the majority of the jury assign a rating equal to or greater than 10. If the number of jury members is even and there is a tie, the chairman of the jury decides if the student is passing or failing.
