Objetivos


  • The course aims to achieve the following competences:

    •  Learning the basic functions of the Portuguese electricity system;

    • Learn what smart grids are and how they differ from traditional LV grids;

    •  Develop the ability to work independently and as part of a group;

    • Develop skills in time management, teamwork, project

  • Understand the Portuguese electricity system, in particular the transmission and distribution sector, understand the organisation of low-voltage distribution networks.



  •     Identify various types of equipment in high and medium voltage electrical networks.



  •     Measure the electrical quantities of an installation with various devices; voltmeters, ammeters, wattmeters, reactive power and energy meters.



  •     Identify smart infrastructure and home automation equipment for electrical installations and networks.



  •     Understand the concept of Smart Grids.

Presentation, assessment standards, other subjects.

Production and Transmission and Distribution of Electricity .

Electricity Production
             Thermal power stations;
             Hydroelectric power stations with reservoirs;
             Renewable energy power stations:
             Wind; Photovoltaic; Mini-hydro.

Electricity Transmission
             Substations;
             Transformation;
             Design: Power stations, lines, substations;
             Transformer stations, industry and tertiary.

Presentation of videos on the Portuguese electricity system

Measuring equipment and quantities - Voltmeter, Ammeter, Wattmeter, Energy meter.

Smart Grids, concept, characteristics, evolution and integration of renewable energy sources and communication.

Seminars.

Métodos de ensino e atividades de aprendizagem

The methodologies employed in the part designated as Study Methods include exposition and discussion of the syllabus, and practical activities, with a view to self-knowledge by the students.

The methodologies used in the part designated as Communication comprise content exposure, analysis of examples and preparation of individual and group work.

There are two to three lectures given by prominent professionals in the area

Realization of several laboratories where skills will be acquired in terms of the various electrical equipment for measuring and acquiring electrical quantities
