Objetivos
Learning and developing skills in the following fields of industrial instrumentation:
1. Principles of measuring temperature, level and flow. Applications of these measurement principles in the industrial area and identification of the advantages and disadvantages of different measurement solutions;
2. Principles of operation of the main types of control valves and positioners: their characteristics, dimensioning and selection according to the applications.

Students should deepen the knowledge acquired in Instrumentation and, as mentioned, develop skills in the following areas of industrial instrumentation:
1.Principles of measuring temperature, level and flow. Applications of these measurement principles in the industrial area and identification of the advantages and disadvantages of different measurement solutions;

Pré-requisitos (conhecimentos prévios) e co-requisitos (conhecimentos simultâneos)
Prerequisites for understanding the subject: Basic concepts of physics, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, chemistry and electrical engineering. Frequency and approval in the discipline of Instrumentation at ARCI.
Programa
1) Temperature measurement. Measurement circuits based on thermometers, bimetals, thermocouples, resistance thermometers, thermistors and pyrometers;
2) Flow measurement. Definition of volumetric and mass flow. Flow measurement methods based on differential pressure; variable area elements (rotameter), electromagnetic principle, vortex, ultrasound, Coriolis, turbines and positive displacement (oval wheels);
3) Methods and basic principles of pH, conductivity and turbidity measurement circuits;
4) Final control elements. The control valve: constitution and functioning, main types and characteristics. Electro-pneumatic (I/P) converters. Definition of Cv and Kv. Specification and choice of a control valve;
5) ISA symbology used in the P&I;

The teaching methodology is based on expository theoretical-practical classes and classroom practice.
The evaluation has a continuous component whose weighting in the final classification is 100%.
There is also a continuous assessment component, associated with an individual research work supported by the tutorial component of the UC, which has a weight of 10% in the student's final classification.

The minimum grade in the continuous evaluation by tests is 8 values in any of the tests.
In situations where the teaching staff deems it necessary, final grades greater than 16 may be defended in oral tests. If the student does not attend these oral tests, his final classification will be 16 points.
Once approved in continuous assessment, the student will only be able to improve the grade during the appeal period.

The final grade is calculated according to the following formula:
NF=0.9*EF+0.1*DSA;
EF- average classification of the 2 tests or the classification in the final exam; DSA- performance in the classroom .
In the case of evaluation by exam, the note of the PE component corresponds to the classification obtained in this test.
