Objetivos

To understand and explain the kinematics of human movement using specific terminology.

To identify biomechanical models and to understand the importance of anthropometry for its application, by applying and calculating anthropometric parameters.

To understand the unique features in modelling the biomechanical properties of the Human joints, bones and musculoskeletal system.

To be able to acquire and analyse kinematic, kinetic and electromyography data.

To be able to employ different solutions to describe Human movement.

To understand the behaviour of the materials that compose the Human body.

To understand biomechanical models as tools for diagnostic, rehabilitation, physiotherapy, physical exercise, ergonomy or as an aid to the design of equipment to support human mobility.

Resultados de aprendizagem e competências

This curricular unit is structured in order to allow the students to explore the use of biomechanical tools in the
assessment of movement and materials' behaviour associated with the Human body.

The contents presented here provide the basis for this analysis in its various forms.
On the one hand, the description of Human movement, calculation of movement forces and muscle contribution.
On the other hand, the development of methodologies for musculoskeletal modelling, enabling the students to
explore deductive and inductive perspectives of Human movement and materials' functioning.

Métodos de ensino e atividades de aprendizagem

The classes are theoretical-practical (TP) and practical-laboratorial (PL).
After exposure of the lesson's contents of the lesson, there is space for demonstration through application examples, resolution of problems and laboratorial work.

The evaluation is carried out through two (2) tests and three (3) laboratory reports.

Tipo de avaliação

Distributed evaluation without final exam

Componentes de Avaliação

Designation Peso (%)
Teste 60,00
Trabalho laboratorial 40,00
Total: 100,00

Componentes de Ocupação

Designation Tempo (Horas)
Frequência das aulas 60,00
Total: 60,00

Obtenção de frequência

Continuous evaluation:

60% TP tests + 40% PL reports

The TP component is evaluated with two (2) tests:
50% 1st test + 50% 2nd test

It is mandatory to attend the 2 TP tests and to submit the 3 PL reports.

Evaluation through final exam (regular/supplementary):

100% exam score (with questions from both TP and PL components)

Every PL report will be conducted as group work. Each one of these reports may be object of discussion in the end of the semester. The lecturer may inquire the group about the commitment of each group's member during the execution of the report.

Non-original reports (totally or partially), duplicated from published materials (papers, books of web pages) will be invalidated. Duplicated reports among the class will also be invalidated, with the authors immediately summoned for a discussion of the contents.

The scores of the PL reports (if higher than 9.5 points) will be valid for evaluation until the maximum of 1 scholar year.

Fórmula de cálculo da classificação final
