Objetivos
The objective of this curricular unit is to learn about environmental technologies and procedures in the area of waste management and ambient air quality management.
Resultados de aprendizagem e competências
In this curricular unit the following competences are attributed:
Waste Management
Know the waste management policy and identify the applicable legal and regulatory requirements; - Manage and ensure the handling, packaging and disposal of waste: characterize waste sources, classify waste and select treatments and final destinations.
Air Quality Management
Know the ambient air quality management policy and identify applicable legal and regulatory requirements Identify and analyze ambient air quality monitoring results; Identify the main pollutants in gaseous emissions and gaseous effluent treatment technologies.

Programa
1-Waste Treatment Technologies
Waste management strategies; Waste Management Policy and Principles; Physical characterization and classification of residues; Collect storage and transport; Specific Waste Management; Analysis of the circularity of the residues.
2-Gaeous Effluent Treatment Technologies Identification of the main air pollutants. Environmental legislation relating to air quality and emissions into the atmosphere. Identification of the main processes and unit operations used in the treatment of gaseous emissions.
Practical Work:
a) Classification of waste, selection of treatment and waste operator;
b) Allocation of final destination and identification of environmental aspects;
c) Evaluation of the efficiency of sorting processes;
d) Waste shipment simulation (national and cross-border transport);
f) Assessment of the legal compliance of the discharge and monitoring of gaseous emissions.
