Objetivos

  • Understand the philosophy inherent to additive manufacturing (AM), its generic steps, and its advantages and limitations.

  • Describe the available AM technologies and the specific materials they are suitable for.

  • Know how to apply the acquired concepts in the AM of polymeric parts.

  • Understand the suitability of AM to the specificities of parts for biomedical applications.

  • Compare the suitability of additive technologies vs. conventional forming for the manufacture of specific biomedical products.

  • Be able to recommend the most appropriate modelling technology for the manufacture of specific biomedical products.

  • Be able to recommend the most appropriate additive technology for the manufacture of specific biomedical products.

  • Be able to design new parts that can be made additively, by geometric integration of existing products

Resultados de aprendizagem e competências

  • Knowledge of the differences between additive and subtractive technologies and corresponding advantages and disadvantages.

  • Knowledge of additive manufacturing philosophies.

  • Knowledge of the applicability of additive manufacturing technologies in biomedical products.

Obtenção de frequência

Option 1
Distributed evaluation WITHOUT final exam

2 tests (60%) + 2 lab reports (30%) + 3 seminar reports (10 %)

- Tests have no minimum score; average ≥ 8.5/20
- No consultation allowed
- It is mandatory to carry out both test
- No minimum score for lab reports.
- Group work.
- There's no recap of reports.
- Failing to deliver an evaluation element implies "zero" score on
   that component

Reports are delivered in pdf version, by email, within 1 week, maximum.

Option 2
: final exam (100%)
Distributed evaluation WITH final exam

  • Final exam (70 %)

(writen or oral, to be decided)

  • 4 lab reports

Final grade ≥ 9.5/20 val is mandatory, regardless of the evaluaion option.

Fórmula de cálculo da classificação final

Option 1
Distributed evaluation WITHOUT final exam

NF = 0.60xT + 0.25xL + 0.15xS

where:
NF - final grade
T - average test grade
L - average lab report grade
S - average seminar report grade

Option 2
Distributed evaluation WITH final exam

NF =0.70xE + 0.30xL

where:
NF - final grade
E - exam grade
L - average lab report grade

Avaliação especial (TE, DA, ...)

Working Students, Federated Athletes, Student's Unions Leaders  and Students under the Law of Religious Freedom must contact the  professor by the end of the second week of the semester, to present their relevant specificities, as provided for in the respective diplomas.
