Objetivos

This course is intended to provide students with knowledge and tools for analyzing the functioning of energy markets, and in particular the electricity markets.

Resultados de aprendizagem e competências

It is intended that in the end, students:

- Possess fundamental instruments for understanding the world energy markets;

- Have developed an overview of the problems inherent to the regulation of national and international energy markets;

- Understand the fundamental issues related to the restructuring of the electricity sector as well as the theoretical bases of the principles that led to the restructuring;

- Be able to identify the main characteristics of the Portuguese energy market;

- Understand the basics of management of electrical energy systems as well as the implications of renewable generation in the formation of electricity prices.

Obtenção de frequência

-Approval Conditions: The assessment will consist of a mixed system of individual assessment by test and by preparation, presentation and discussion of research papers, in groups.

-Theoretical component: carrying out a theoretical test (40% for the final grade, with a minimum grade of 7), possibly also being replaced by a work.

-Practical component: realization of 3 works, distributed by:

Research reports: include a short individual research with class presentation, on topics relevant to energy markets (2x12.5% ​​for the final grade);

Literature Review: A literature review report and presentation on a topic of choice relevant to the topic of Energy markets. (5% for the presentation and 25% for the report).

Attendance in classes and presentations: the presence and participation in classes and presentations of both the teacher and colleagues will be valued (5% towards the final grade).

Approval Conditions: The final grade of the discipline will be calculated by: NF=0.4*NT+0.6*NP or NF=NE

- Theoretical score (NT): the minimum test score is 7 values ​​(without rounding), with a weight of 40%. In the case of a mixed situation, the NP will be as specified above.

- Final exam grade (NE) must be equal to or greater than 10 values.

- Practical grade (NP): calculated based on the completion of work with an average equal to or greater than 10 values ​​with a weight of 60%.
