Objetivos

At the theoretical level, this course aims to provide students with knowledge of asynchronous state machines in fundamental mode, microprogrammed control of digital systems, memories and programmable logic. At a practical level, it is intended that students develop control projects for digital systems with special emphasis on the use of state machines and microprogrammed control with implementation of a programmable logic device. This course also aims to deepen the students' experience in the autonomous development of projects.

Métodos de ensino e atividades de aprendizagem

Theoretical-practical classes: In the theoretical-practical classes, the basic concepts of each of the themes of the program are taught. For this purpose, it is systematically used the presentation of examples and the resolution of illustrative exercises.
Practical/Laboratory Classes: in laboratory classes the student performs autonomous project work and acquires complementary knowledge through experimentation. Most laboratory classes are intended for the development of a project in which it is intended to use one of the control techniques taught in theoretical-practical classes. This component of the assessment will only be completed when the deadlines established in the plan disclosed to students have been met and after all components and other materials requested in the laboratory have been returned.

Method 1: (method applied by default) There are two evaluation components: a theoretical (T) and a practical (P). Theoretical assessment can be obtained by taking 3 mini-tests (MT) throughout the semester or, in a mutually exclusive alternative, by an exam (Ex) at the end of the semester.
There are three exam periods: Normal period, Recourse period and Special period (only final year students, working students and association leaders have access to the latter). In the normal period, the student who has failed up to 2 mini-tests will choose between taking the exam or recovering these tests. If they have failed the 3 mini-tests, they will only be able to take the exam.
A student who has obtained a positive assessment in the theoretical component up to the Normal period (inclusive), upon registration in the academic division, is allowed to take the exam at the Recourse period as a grade improvement.
The theoretical grade results from the highest grade between the average of the mini-tests or the exam grade and is a value with 1 decimal place.
The practical assessment consists of 3 laboratory works/projects (L1, L2 and L3) and a final project (PF), works that must be original and prepared with the active participation of all members of the group that the student is part of.
Each laboratory work and the final project are evaluated based on the student's performance in the respective classes (D), the report presented (R) and the presentation/discussion (A). The submission of all laboratory work, final project and respective reports is mandatory. The practical assessment is determined by the weighted average of the classification obtained in the various works/projects with 1 decimal place. This component of the assessment will only be completed when the established deadlines are met and after all components and other materials required by the laboratory have been returned. Failure to deliver one or more laboratory work or failure to complete the final project will result in failure in the course.

For students who are excluded from continuous assessment, at the time this form is written, there is no alternative for obtaining the practical assessment necessary for success in this curricular unit. Within a maximum period of 15 consecutive days after exclusion from continuous assessment until the last in person classe (which one occurs first), these students will have to contact the person responsible for the UC to find a solution that enables the completion of the practical assessment in due time.
The minimum score in each of the assessment instruments is 9.5 points.

Method 2: (method to be applied under special conditions and upon prior analysis of the application of interested students) The final grade is obtained in full by evaluating a global practical project and is mainly based on the student's performance during its execution (DA), in the quality of the final report (RF), in the presentations made (A) and in carrying out a discussion associated with the final presentation (D) on the entire subject of the discipline. This evaluation method will only be successfully completed if the established deadlines are scrupulously adhered to and after all components and other materials required by the laboratory have been returned.
The application for this method of assessment must be presented to the responsible teacher during the first fortnight of classes.
The minimum grade in any of the evaluation instruments is 9.5 values.

Regardless of the assessment method, failure to deliver or fail any of the laboratory work or failure to complete or fail the final project will result in failure in the practical component of the assessment and, therefore, in failure of the curricular unit.

Fórmula de cálculo da classificação final

Method 1:
NF = 0.5xT + 0.5xP
on what:
T = [MAX((mT1 + mT2 + mT3)/3; Ex)] or [Tap]
P = [0.05xL1 + 0.15xL2 + 0.25xL3 + 0.55xPF] or [Pap]
on what:
Tap = Theoretical grade obtained last year (by the student's choice and only if greater than or equal to 9.5 points)
Pap = Practical grade obtained last year (by the student's choice and only if greater than or equal to 9.5 points)
Ln = 0.2 x Dn + 0.3 x An + 0.5 x Rn
PF = 0.2 x D + 0.5 x A + 0.3 x R
on what:
n represents the numerical index of each laboratory work

Method 2:
NF = 0.3xDA + 0.2xRF + 0.25xA + 0.25xD
with DA>=9.50; RF>=9.50; A>=9.50; D>= 9.50

Note:
(1) Regardless of the assessment method, all assessment elements are represented on a scale of 0 to 20 values and are subject to a minimum grade equal to or greater than 9.5 values.
(2) According to the assessment regulations currently in force, all installments are presented to 1 decimal place, except for the final grade (NF), which is rounded to the nearest unit.
(3) Some of the assessment elements may be obtained through peer assessment processes.

Provas e trabalhos especiais

The holding of tests in a special period for final year students, working students and association leaders, is subject to registration at the Academic Services as per current regulations. The eventual holding of a special period exam only contributes to the theoretical component of the assessment. Students interested in carrying out the practical assessment at this time will have to inform the responsible teacher of their intention until the last day of classes to define the schedule and establish the project's statement.

Avaliação especial (TE, DA, ...)

Working Students, High Competition Athletes, Associative Managers and Students under the Law of Religious Freedom must contact the person responsible for the UC, during the first fortnight of classes, to present their relevant specificities, as provided for in the respective legal diplomas.

Melhoria de classificação

Taking exams for improvement purposes is subject to registration at the Academic Services in accordance to current regulations. The improvement of the grade focuses only on the theoretical component of the assessment.

Observações

Attendance:
Students must assiduously attend laboratory practice classes in order to successfully complete this component of the assessment. If there is any justified impediment, the students must immediately present the situation to the respective laboratory teacher so that a way can be determined to guarantee the student the possibility of carrying out the laboratory practice in good time.

Course Moodle page:
Enrollment on the course's Moodle page is mandatory in order to access the materials available and to access the various assessment tools (mini-tests, practical assignments and exams).

Rules for taking tests:
The rules for carrying out the Final Project and for carrying out Mini-Tests/Exams are available for consultation on the subject's Moodle page, are mandatory and constitute an extension to this subject sheet.

Repeat students:
Students who have failed but who have obtained a positive assessment in any of the components (theoretical or practical) in the past year may be exempted from taking that component this year. For this, they must send an email to the person responsible for the course, during the first fortnight of classes, declaring their intention to keep the grade of the previous year. However, if the student chooses to retake any test of the component previously approved, the classification of the previous year is immediately forgotten, prevailing the one obtained in the current year.
