Objetivos

Acquire knowledge, skills and competences that allow students to understand climatic parameters and the factors that explain them, in their dynamics, interfere with human actions and vice versa, particularly in terrestrial and maritime biotic responses.

Acquire knowledge about anthropogenic action in climate change, since the pre-industrial era, analyzing the observed trends in climate variations up to the present, as well as future projections.

Analyze the different impacts, adaptations and mitigation of climate change in society - integration of the phenomena of acid deposition, greenhouse effect, depletion of the ozone layer, and urban heat island with the atmosphere and the climate system.

Resultados de aprendizagem e competências

- Know and understand the physical laws of radiation transfer in the atmosphere.
- Identify the main constituents of the atmosphere and situations of natural imbalance.
- Integrate the thermodynamics and statics of the atmosphere with the ability to disperse the atmosphere.
- Know and understand the physical laws that govern the dynamics of the atmosphere and their applications.
- Understand and know how to make a hydrological balance (global, regional or local).
- Know how to interpret and analyze precipitation data.
- Understand the Ocean-Atmosphere coupling - Assess the importance of the atmosphere for the variability of the climate system.
- Understand the Greenhouse Effect, Radiative Forcing and Climate Response.
- Interpret climate models and the various scenarios considered.

Métodos de ensino e atividades de aprendizagem

Theoretical-Practical Classes: Theoretical exposition of the subject, followed by problem solving that facilitate the understanding of the subject and its application.

Practical-Laboratory Classes: Carrying out work on the analysis of climate data and the concentration of greenhouse gases.

Laboratory works complement the concepts introduced in theoretical/practical classes, by analyzing real data. Test reports are mandatory. The work is carried out in groups, which allows the acquisition of skills in collaborative work, communication and leadership.

Resources: Moodle platform, in which the most important activities are: Repository of study materials, discussion forums, delivery of laboratory work, tests and exams, dissemination of evaluation results.

Tipo de avaliação

Distributed evaluation without final exam

Componentes de Avaliação

Designation Peso (%)
Teste 70,00
Trabalho laboratorial 30,00
Total: 100,00

Componentes de Ocupação

Designation Tempo (Horas)
Estudo autónomo 87,00
Frequência das aulas 45,00
Trabalho laboratorial 30,00
Total: 162,00

Obtenção de frequência

Attendance of 80% of laboratory classes is an essential condition for continuous assessment.

Fórmula de cálculo da classificação final

Assessment distributed over three tests, T1, T2 and T3, (30 to 40 minutes) in person to be carried out on the Moodle platform during class time or at a time to be agreed with the teacher.

- T is thearithmetic mean of the tests, minimum score of 10; the minimum grade for each test is 8 values

- LW is the arithmetic mean of laboratory work, minimum grade of 10; the minimum grade for each report is 8 values

If the student does not obtain a grade in the Tests (T), or wants to improve his grade, he must take the exam, with a minimum grade of 10 values. The exam will be held on the Moodle platform.

Final grade will be:
FG = 30% (LW) + 70% (T or E)

The approval in the laboratory in the current academic year is only carried over to the following year if the final test grade is at least 6 values.

Avaliação especial (TE, DA, ...)

Students with special statutes must inform the RUC until 2023.10.31 in order to agree on a plan for attendance/follow-up of laboratory classes to allow the applicaon of the UC assessment rules.

Observações

- Attendance to laboratory activities is mandatory. In case of impossibility to be present, the student must contact the Teacher in advance;

- The laboratory work reports might be returned to the group for improvement, if they have not reached the minimum grade;

- Students who do not have all the reports approved during the continuous assessment period have the possibility to deliver the reports not accepted until the date of exam (normal period);

- If the student does not obtain the minimum grade in one of the tests, he/she can recover that test on dates at the end of the semester, agreed with the Teacher, or on the date defined by the Pedagogical Council for the evaluation of the normal period.

- The weekly schedule for answering doubts/questions will be published on the UC page in Moodle.

- In tests/exam only non-programmable scientific calculator and the Form and Tables provided.
