Objetivos
Nowadays, companies and institutions have computer networks permanently connected to the internet. Ensuring the integrity, confidentiality and availability of data and its routing on the network is a continuous task for managers and computer technicians.
This curricular unit addresses various aspects of security that must be addressed in the design, implementation and maintenance of the computer infrastructure.
The aspects of data integrity assurance and encryption are also addressed, as well as the protocols that use these mechanisms, such as SSH and Virtual Private Networks (VPN).
Resultados de aprendizagem e competências
After attending this course, students will understand the importance of security in computer networks and the mechanisms and techniques used in these systems.
Students will be able to apply this knowledge and these techniques to real systems.
Modo de trabalho
Presencial
Pré-requisitos (conhecimentos prévios) e co-requisitos (conhecimentos simultâneos)
Knowledge of computer networks and IP addressing.

Métodos de ensino e atividades de aprendizagem
Project Based Learning (PBL) pedagogical method.
The theoretical/practical concepts of the various topics are presented in the TP lessons. Mandatory laboratory work will be carried out for all chapters of the course. At the end of the course, the acquired knowledge will be used to carry out a course project. A test will be conducted at the end of the course.

Obtenção de frequência
The approval in continuous assessment implies a minimum frequency of 75%.
Students have to carry out all the laboratory work and the project and submit the corresponding report.
Fórmula de cálculo da classificação final
The final grade will be obtained based on the formula:
𝐹𝑖𝑛𝑎𝑙 Grade = 50% Project + 30% Test + 20% Laboratory Work.
All components must have a minimum mark of 9.5.
