Objetivos
The purpose of this course is to allow the student to have the ability to analyze a renewable energy generation and storage system, through the use of modeling and synthesis tools, in order to be able to make informed decisions about its normal operation and their behavior in the face of internal and external disturbances.
Resultados de aprendizagem e competências
By attending this course, and analyzing an energy generation and storage system from renewable sources, students will acquire:
- The ability to analyse and develop a project for an energy conversion system based on renewable sources, both for isolated/islanded and grid-connected systems;
- The ability to model and synthesize the various components of a renewable system;
- The aptitude to develop critical attitudes and decision-making related to the effects of internal and external disturbances on the operation of a renewable energy conversion system.
Modo de trabalho
Presencial
Pré-requisitos (conhecimentos prévios) e co-requisitos (conhecimentos simultâneos)
Renewable energy sources, control, electrical machines, power eletronics, simulation tools
Programa
1. Introduction to renewable energy sources: solar photovoltaic (wind power; hydro and mini-hydro)
2. Modeling of renewable sources of electricity production
3. Regulation and control of electronic power converters and eletrical machines
4. Modeling of electronic power converters: DC/DC, DC/AC and AC/DC
5. Modeling of electrical generators, namely asynchronous and synchronous generators
6. Energy storage systems for renewable energies (their importance; features; study of various solutions; comparison between different technologies)
6. Integration of the different components in order to obtain a stable system, immune to internal and external disturbances.

Obtenção de frequência
The student has to deliver a simulation (50%), a report (25%), and carry out a discussion about these two elements (25%) with the teacher. The minimum score for each of the evaluation elements is 10 (ten) in a scale from 0 to 20 (twenty).
Fórmula de cálculo da classificação final
The final grade of the course (NF) will be calculated as follows:
- The
simulation grade (NT) with a minimum value of 10 has a weight of 50% in the final grade (NF)
- The
simulation report grade (NR) with a minimum value of 10 has a weight of 25% in the final grade (NF)
- The r
eport/simulation oral discussion grade (ND) with a minimum value of 10 has a weight of 25% in the final grade (NF)
- The final grade of the course will be calculated by:
NF=0.5*NT + 0.25*NR + 0.25*NDTrabalho de estágio/projeto
The project report must follow the standard format used for scientific work at IPS/ESTSetúbal.
Melhoria de classificação
Since the methodology of the course is based on a continuous assessment model, it is not possible to improve the classification through an exam.
Observações
Since the methodology of this course is based on a continuous assessment model, if the student has not delivered one or more of the aforementioned assessment instruments in due time, he cannot be submitted to an written exam. Likewise, and for the same reason, if the student has not passed one or more assessment instruments (simulation/report/discussion) he cannot be submitted to an written exam.
