Objetivos

Provide students with knowledge on the control and management of electric and hybrid motorization systems.

Resultados de aprendizagem e competências

The dynamics of road electric vehicles and the characterization of electric and hybrid vehicles available in the market, as well as new emerging mobility solutions will be studied.

The study and analysis of VE and HEV will also be performed using simulation programs. Finally, in the laboratory, traction batteries, their battery management systems, the study and programming of variable speed motors, among others, will be tested. In this way, in addition to theoretical skills, practical skills will be developed in a laboratory environment.

1. Introduction. Evolution of transport and mobility systems. Environmental and energy constraints in the development of transport and mobility.
2. Vehicle Dynamics.
3. Characterization of the existing electric and hybrid motorization solutions. Characteristics of the hybrid traction. Hybrid traction systems configurations. Operational strategies. Range Extenders.
4. Types, characteristics and performance of electric motors used in electric mobility. Sizing and selection of electric motors. Assembly / integration solutions (1, 2 and 4 motors). Motor-in-wheel. Engine cooling systems (air, water, oil).
5. Principle of operation of electric motor controllers. Control strategies in VEH (battery charge management, economic mode, sports mode, etc.). Programming of controllers. Electronic differential. Regenerative braking and optimization of energy utilization.
6. Electric vehicle charging modes. Main characteristics, plug types, communications between charging station and EV and V2X communications.

Métodos de ensino e atividades de aprendizagem

The teaching methodologies are essentially two, namely associated to the theoretical-practical classes and practical-laboratory. The theoretical-practical classes consist of the exposition of the programmatic contents by the teacher. In this context, it is also planned periods of discussion with the aim of stimulating reasoning, ability to argue and increase interest. With respect to the practical component, students should develop a study and simulation of an electric or hybrid vehicle and its connection to the electrical network, as well as a set of laboratory equipment tests.

The evaluation components will have the mandatory evaluation in the theoretical-practical component and in the practical-laboratory component.

NF - final classification

NTP - classification of theoretical and practical tests. Minimum classification of 8 values in each test and 9.5 values in the average of the tests or in the final exam.

NTr - classification of the report and presentation of the research work (min. 9.5 values)

NL - classification of laboratory work, mandatory attendance (min. 9.5 values)
