Objetivos

Goals
Identify the main sources of renewable energy and understand the operation of the technologies used in the use of renewable energy.
Characterize the Portuguese energy landscape.
Know various energy conversion and storage processes.

Resultados de aprendizagem e competências

At the end of this Curricular Unit, the student should be able to:

1- Understand/explain the principles that support the use of renewable energies. Distinguish the concepts and know how to apply them.
2- Characterize the Portuguese energy landscape.
3- Identify the main sources of renewable energy and know how to characterize the respective available resources. Differentiate the technologies and equipment related to each use.
4- Understand/explain energy conversion and storage processes.
5- Carry out practical work in order to experiment, validate and consolidate theoretical knowledge.

Métodos de ensino e atividades de aprendizagem

Theoretical-practical classes will have a component based on exposing the syllabus of the discipline and another component based on exemplifying, in terms of applications, that content, and problem solving.
This exhibition will be complemented with practical works by the student, where a strong component of autonomous work is privileged in the development of the proposed works.

Obtenção de frequência

1- The continuous assessment regime
Students who intend to attend the UC on a continuous assessment basis have the obligation to carry out all assessments of the two components:
- Theoretical-practical component (T) is evaluated by tests. The T component score is given by the average of the tests.

- Component of practical work with mandatory completion. The evaluation of this component is made up of performance in class (Dp) and the reports presented on the work (P).

2- Exam assessment system with mandatory assignments
Students who choose the examination assessment system will take a written test in which all the material corresponding to the T component will be assessed. Exams are taken at school-level scheduled times.

The minimum grade of the average of the Tests, the Practical Component and the Exam is 9.5 (nine point five).

3-Assessment regime at the time of exams
The exam consists of two parts, one for the first part, and another for the second part. Students who did not pass the continuous assessment regime and are required to take an exam for approval, may decide not to take one of the parts of that exam and, in that part, the classification obtained in the corresponding test will be attributed. The classifications obtained in the parts carried out in the exam replace those eventually obtained in tests for the calculation of the T average.

Fórmula de cálculo da classificação final

Final grade (NF) in the continuous assessment regime is given by:

NF = 0.6*T + 0.3*P + 0.1*Dp;

The final grade (NF) in the exam assessment system will be the weighted average of the classification obtained at the time of the exam (NE) and that obtained in the mandatory Practical component (P) or equivalent,

NF =0.6 *NE + 0.4 *P ;

Students who have obtained NF ≥9.5 values will be approved with the final grade (NF) determined by rounding to the nearest integer.

Melhoria de classificação

Once approved in continuous assessment, the student will only be able to improve the grade during the appeal period.

Observações

The contents and teaching materials to support the study can be found on the ERA page on moodle. Students are registered by the RUC.

Students with special statutes must present their specific situation to the RUC, taking into account the objective implications of following the classes.
